Microwave gun (and "Gunslinger") to be used by US troops on Iraq rioters
2004-09-20
Microwave weapons that cause pain without lasting injury are to be issued to American troops in Iraq for the first time as concern mounts over the growing number of civilians killed in fighting. The non-lethal weapons, which use high-powered electromagnetic beams, will be fitted to vehicles already in Iraq, which will allow the system to be introduced as early as next year... ...The armoured vehicles will be named Sheriffs once they have been modified to carry the microwave weapons, known as the Active Denial System (ADS)... ...In another development, the Sheriffs will be fitted with Gunslinger, a rapid-fire gun currently under development that will detect enemy snipers and automatically fire back at them...
This is the first mention that the "Gunslinger" system is to be deployed. It has been developed by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, but I'm hard pressed to find its specifications.

#9  It would be fun to see a trailer mounted CWIS respond to sniper fire in full automatic mode.

#8  A developing secret program application, however for those who remember the auto fire system installed in the halls at the terra forming station in "Aliens 2"; a system which is similar!

#7  Can find anything in particular about the "Gunslinger" system. I wonder whether the system works off of three or more microphones displaced 10 feet apart both vertically and horizontally with a computer that calculates the source of the shot based on an instantaneous comparison of the signal strengths for the sound wave.

#6  I wonder if it can cookoff rounds. If we plan to use the system domestically for crowd control, I hope we tested it on people wearing foil hats.

#5  Didn't find anything about Active Denial System (ADS) on Global Security but the AF has a fact sheet.

#3  I believe the gentlemen at 57 West 57th St in NYC first deployed a functional Active Denial System.

#2  ADS...is a super system that is great against a crowd. If you have say...several bad guys (read: terrorists) among a crowd of civilians...you aim at the civilians in front, or around the dude with the weapon..and wjen his human shield drops/jumps away...you tag the shooter with da reel thing.

#1  Active Denial System - kick ass. Whoever comes up with some of these acronyms should get a medal.
