When my boyfriend and I heard that John Kerry was slated to be the guest on last night's Daily Show, we all but raced to the TiVo to set it on record. (Not that we ever miss The Daily Show anyway, but this would be one worth keeping.) What a "get" for Jon Stewart, the court jester of the 2004 election! And finally Kerry would have the chance to step down from the campaign stump and show people who are desperate for a reason to vote for him what he's really made of: his passion, his conviction, his much-vaunted (at least by his wife) sense of humor. Except, as Jon Stewart has been known to say: Eh, not so much.

From the moment the senator appeared and sat down on the gray sofa where, just last week, Bill Clinton basked in the audience's applause like a cat lapping up cream, Kerry's charisma was less than zero: It was negative. He was a charm vacuum, forced to actually borrow mojo from audience members. He was a dessicated husk, a tin man who really didn't have a heart. His lack of vibrancy, his utter dearth of sex appeal made Al Gore look like Charo. (I've always found Al Gore sort of hot, actually, like a stuffy high school principal just begging to be broken down. But I have some issues with authority.)

#6  SH - Here is a link to the story. Interesting Read.

(Sorry for the long post quoting a blog but this is interesting..)

In short UMass is having a study of forced migration from S. Vietnam and offered fellowships - apparently failing to follow the guidelines for hiring fellows (for example: posting notices too close to the dealine date)...

Why? Because the Joiner Center and UMass already had scholars in mind to study the forced migration of the South Vietnamese people. And half of those scholars came from the People's Republic of Viet Nam -- the same Communists who tortured and massacred the refugees into fleeing Viet Nam in the first place, after the fall of Saigon. (The other two fellows are an American-born, 25-year-old person of Vietnamese ancestry and a Caucasian listed in the complaint as "under 40".)

Later in the posting shows a letter from Kerry supporting their choice:

Choosing two established and accomplished scholars from Vietnam and two emerging scholars from the United States assures a diversity of views and combines fresh perspectives with time-tested observation. It is essential and critical that a project of this magnitude regarding a phenomenon as sweeping as the Vietnamese diaspora consider candidates from all countries, political backgrounds and cultural orientations to achieve free and unencumbered inquiry.

#5  .com, I usually don't post full articles of importance because they go into the sink trap until they are saved or flushed as appropriate. Captains Quarterly has dug up something on Kerry that is pretty recent and appears to me to be pretty damning. Kerry has written a letter of support for using mostly communist Vietnamese scholars to participate in a study of NV attrocities during the war. It may be worth a look.

#4  SH - Wow! Hmmm. The Zumwalt deal is confusing - and it's sad to see an honorable man's name dragged into such a scummy affair.

One would presume you have to be guilty (at least to a degree) of something for anyone to get something on you, right? Hey, I dunno - I don't think like this so I'm out of my depth, here!

This situation gives me 2 immediate impressions (it's getting pretty late, heh):

1) There is nothing, nothing whatsoever, that the Dhimmis won't do.

2) There are a LOT of people in politics who're dirty - or can be set up to look like it.

Wow. This is why I prefer working with machines.

#3  CQ also had a link to a NY Daily article disclosing what is in the Brown File on Zumwalt. This has begun to smell like extortion:

A Swift (& deadly) response

" Sen. John Kerry called a member of the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth over the weekend to try to reason with him over the group's attacks on his record. But fellow Democrats aren't hesitating to try far more aggressive tactics.

A group of Democratic loyalists is compiling incriminating dossiers on the members of the veteran group - and they sent us a preview of what might be in store for Swift Boat activist James Zumwalt, son of illustrious Adm. Elmo Zumwalt - and it isn't pretty.

Zumwalt "attempted to kill himself with an overdose of prescription drugs," after the murder of his ex-wife's fiance, John Kowalczyk, according to the dossier, which is footnoted to news sources, and was "convicted of reckless driving after chasing Kowalczyk at a high speed on the highway."

Zumwalt stepped into the line of fire when he testified with the controversial Swift vets at the National Press Club in Washington last May.

What was that old chestnut about loose lips sinking ships?"

#2  .com, I found a like at Captain's Quarters to a Judicial Watch release about Kerry's 1996 connection to a previous Clinton controversy:

Secret FBI Documents Reveal Kerry Accepted Laundered Contributions

"... Among the documents released is an investigative outline dated March 27, 1998, that details the FBI’s “proposed areas of inquiry” into the actions of Democratic fund-raiser Johnny Chung,..."

Now that guy got around.
