Suspected Taliban neo-Taliban militants kidnapped five schoolteachers in southeastern Afghanistan, AFP reported 18 April. According to AFP, Zabul provincial spokesman Alhaj Ghulam Rabani said kidnappers abducted the five on 16 April in the province’s Shajoy District, where insurgents are known to operate. "The government has no control over the districts of Zabul Province. [The] Taliban rule and threaten villagers not to register for elections," Rabani said at a disarmament seminar in Kabul, calling on the Afghan government to send forces to the area.
