Egyptian authorities have arrested a Kuwaiti passenger on board a Qatar Airways flight that made an emergency landing in Cairo after he attempted to hijack the plane. Airline spokesperson Salam al-Shawa said the man had no sharp objects, but had caused a disturbance on flight 553 to Doha from Casablanca when he wanted to commandeer the flight. âOne of the passengers caused trouble as he wanted to enter the cabin and insist the captain change route. The pilot refused and landed in Cairo.â
âThe man wanted the pilot to divert the flight to Geneva,â she added. âHe is a Kuwaiti national and presently in the custody of Egyptian authorities,â al-Shawa said. The flight was scheduled to touch down in Doha at 10:30am she said, adding that the state-owned carrier would press charges against the man. |
