Polish police detained two Pakistanis in central Warsaw as part of heightened security across Europe in the wake of the deadly train bombings in Madrid, police said on Monday. A police spokesman declined to comment on a newspaper report which said officers on Sunday found maps in the apartment occupied by the two men aged 32 and 44 marking out airports, a synagogue and some embassies in Warsaw. âAs part of security procedures the two individuals were detained for in-depth questioning to establish their status and purpose of their stay in Warsaw,â the spokesman said. Poland fears that it may be a target for an attack on its civilians by Islamic extremists, because it supported the US-led invasion of Iraq and is part of the occupation force. |
