Italy has asked Pakistan to add 16 Italian nationals to a United Nations consolidated list of Al Qaeda and Taliban suspects for their arrest and handing over to the United States. Romeâs request claimed that the 16 men got terrorism training in Pakistan.

âWeâve received the request and are working on that. One of our intelligence agencies has observed that these individuals may be in Afghanistan,â a senior civilian officer said. âWe will arrest them if they cross into Pakistan,â the officer said. He said if arrested, the men will be handed over to the US after investigation. Another intelligence agency claims that the 16 are Italian nationals of Tunisian origin. He said they were never trained in Pakistan as suggested by Italy.
On the recommendations of the two Pakistani intelligence agencies, Islamabad has asked Rome to provide evidence suggesting the individualsâ presence in Pakistan. |
