More on the Shout-Outs to Sleepers
2003-10-23
Al-Qaida has reportedly sent a message to its network of sleeper agents in the Persian Gulf, ordering more attacks on the United States and its allies.
That’d make it Abu Hazim’s turf and he’s said to be in Saudi Arabia these days.
Intelligence sources told Middle East Newsline last weekend’s taped message from al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was meant to awaken sleepers to carry out one or more unspecified attacks, with the main target believed to be Kuwait. An unidentified intelligence source told MENL: "We believe this was directed at al-Qaida’s large sleeper network in Kuwait to move into action. There’s nothing more specific than this." Bin Laden’s message broadcast over the Aljazeera satellite channel warned of new attacks against the United States and its allies in Iraq. MENL noted that during that message, bin Laden named one only Arab country -- Kuwait.
Still developing, though it’s interesting to learn that al-Qaeda has a "large" sleeper network in place in Kuwait. Anybody care to lay odds that they were the ones taking pot-shots at our troops last fall? More to the point, if the Kuwaitis know the sleepers are there this might be one motive behind their refusal to accept Suleiman Abu Ghaith (assuming the offer wasn’t just BS) from the Iranians.
