Sponger Hamza is back
2003-10-18
HOOK-handed cleric Abu Hamza is back sponging off the taxpayer — living at his old house with his wife. Hamza has been hiding in a secret bolthole while he battles Home Secretary David Blunkett’s decision to revoke his British nationality. But now he has sneaked back to the five-bed West London home where his wife and eight children live on handouts worth £1,000 a week.
"Hey, baby! I', back! Ready to make it nine?"
"Ohh! Abu! You silver tongued devil, you!"
Hamza, 45, dubbed Captain Hook, is shielded by a posse of minders who stop traffic every time he goes out and use a fleet of cars to confuse pursuers.
Wonder who pays for them?
Yesterday he gave an hour-long rant outside his old power base, the now boarded-up Finsbury Park Mosque in North London. He accused British politicians of lying about conflict in the Middle East.

#2  Wish I were still in England. Had some friends in one of the local villages in Northamptonshire that would have gladly helped out in a modest extradition effort. Hay hook, firmly implanted under the chin, short length of rope (about ten feet), attached to the nose gear of a C-5 out of Mildenhall. Get about halfway over the Atlantic, and "splash". No body, no remains, no problem.

#1  The Telegraph has more detail:

"Police in north London have entered into an agreement with Hamza to block off a road and allow him to preach to his followers in the street every Friday."
This is blatently illegal.

"Each week at least 12 officers are on duty outside Finsbury Park mosque, which has been closed and boarded up since a police raid in January, as Hamza preaches and prays. The cost of policing is set to rise steeply because Hamza's citizenship hearing before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission has been delayed until next April, 12 months after Mr Blunkett announced he was taking action. The delay has occurred despite the fact that Hamza is the only person facing proceedings under the legislation whereby people can be stripped of their citizenship for behaviour "seriously prejudicial" to British interests."
He's a suspected threat to the nation, sufficient to warrant legistation being drawn up to deal with him, and he's not even under lock and key?! This is madness.

"Yesterday more than 150 people gathered to hear the Egyptian-born cleric describe Israel as a criminal state, attack the media as Zionist and denounce Western politicians as corrupt homosexuals. As Hamza arrived in his C-registered Mercedes around 1pm, officers closed St Thomas's Road to traffic using barriers and police tape. Police then assisted Hamza's followers, some masked, in stewarding the meeting by keeping photographers and cameramen behind the barricade. The offence of obstructing the highway was ignored and there was no police interpreter present as he began preaching in Arabic."
He should be banged up for obstructing the highway, not given a police bodyguard.

I'm not in favour of censorship, as a rule. But it's beyond a joke having the hook-handed cleric's ravings subsidised with taxpayers' money, especially given the pending assessment of his citizenship, and status as "seriously prejudicial" to British interests. Time to send him back to Egypt.
