| American Muslims Play Victim, Ignore Reality |

On the other hand, their beliefs qualify them to be characters in Aristophones’ Cloud Cuckoo Land. Muslims have been subjected to forms of scrutiny and discrimination after the Sep. 11 attacks on US landmarks, attributed to Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda group. Yet Muslim groups say the past few months saw a new twist — a shift towards targeting of Muslim community leaders, who were trying to empower Muslims, and of pro-Palestine activists. Since you’ve called UBL a Saudi Dissident, I’ll assume ’pro-Palestine activists’ means Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Hizbollah, and Al-Qaeda operatives. "The novel shows two main sources for hysteria," said Allaa Baioumi of CAIR. "One of them is a fundamentalist in the village. These are the right wing and neo-conservatives now. The other section was people who benefited from the crisis like rich folks who wanted to punish their opponents. | #5 American Muslims better quit squeezing the victim goose and make some news happen. Mainstream America has been pretty mild in its reaction to the Islamists. Another hit and American Muslims will take the heat, justified or not. The better start being proactive. |

| #4 I feel sorry for the regular Muslims who were just minding their own business and then became enemy suspect number one, but these "poor-me" pieces instantly turn my sympathy into anger against them. Had these types vigorously, visibly and loudly denounced the actions of their fellow Muslims who show no other inclination except to kill "infidels", it's likely that these whiners wouldn't be suffering increased scrutiny. |

| #3 Did a quick google search on the alleged incidents in the CAIR press release--zero for all, the only mentions in the press are from Muslim outlets who cite the CIAR release as the source. Little credibility problem there. |

| #2 Not only does the "crackdown" seems to be a whole lot lighter than the Japanese suffered but the Iranians got it worse also during the hostage crisis. I went to High School in a New England Prep School. I remember an Iranian kid lived in the other side of the dorm. Soon after the hostages were taken, all Iranian students got their Visas pulled and were ejected. Jimmy Carter put his foot down. |

| #1 I feel sorry for the regular Muslims who were just minding their own business and then became enemy suspect number one, but these "poor-me" pieces instantly turn my sympathy into anger against them. Constant whining about the horror of dirty looks and never a mention of the endless suffering, death, inconvenience and massive tax burdern the rest of us were hit with because of their Islamic Fundamentalists. But Noooo...we need to understand the root causes of their anger. Apparently they can see no such need for discussion regarding the root causes of ours. But then, I suppose the people who actually pedal these press releases really don't care that the end result of this trash is that it turns our sympathy into anger. Just give 'em the limelight and send them a check and they'll feel happy. |
