Frenchies: ''We won't be intimidated...''
2002-10-11
France said Friday it would not bow to terrorism and demanded that Yemen to catch and punish those responsible for an attack on the oil tanker Limburg. "France will not be intimidated," said Catherine Colonna, the spokeswoman for French President Jacques Chirac.
When did that start?
She also said that a claim of responsibility for the attack reportedly sent by a militant Muslim group to a pan-Arab newspaper "gives the impression that an American ship was originally targeted."
"Mahmoud, there ain't no Merkins around here!"
"Then boom a Frenchie."
"Do I still get the virgins?"

The ship was towed into a northeastern Yemen port Friday, after investigators said metal and plastic pieces found on the deck suggested the ship was rammed by a smaller craft. American officials said Sunday's blast was an act of terrorism most likely carried out by people with links to al-Qaida. "It's become clear it's an act of terrorism," a U.S. intelligence official in Washington said Thursday.
Unless you're an Arab. Then it was probably the Mossad...

#9  Except the explosion was from the inside, indicating an inside job; possibly at the
point of on loading of oil; Question, where
did the tanker load

#8  My Mom lived in France for years. They've been tolerating and allowing bombings for years: Parisians are conditioned, upon entering busses, to glance under the seats when (I mean, if) they sit down. About 99% of all the public statues in Paris are fakes, substitutes for the real ones that are kept under lock and key.

I personally think the French (and almost all the liberal Euros) are kinda ticked off that we won't "suck it in and take it", when they've been bombed, and have had to "suck it in and take it", for years.

#4  Hey, the French have shown that they will go after terrorists who attack them-- just ask Carlos the Jackal, or those accused of bombing the French subway (still rotting in prison without trial after a few years), or Greenpeace, whose ship the French sunk.

The French look out for the French. They don't give us any favors, and don't help us with our problems. (See: no airspace rights when bombing Libya.) They wouldn't mind sitting this one out and letting us take care of it-- if the Muslim terrorists target the US and leave France alone, so much the better, they think. They have an implicit bargain with terrorists-- if terrorists leave France alone, France won't help the US and others.

Actively making France an enemy would be very, very stupid for the Muslim terrorists.

#2  I bet saturday will be the "French media blame-Merkins" day - that way they can include a Mossad/CIA link and have a side order of antisemitism on the Jewish Sabbath.... mmmm that smells like french cooking

#1  Reading between the lines, I believe Ms. Colonna is laying the groundwork to blame this one on the Americans. They just assumed every big tanker was one of ours and accidently boomed a French one. It should take until sunday for the French media to start blaming the hyperpower.
