New U.N. ambassador to open new horizons in Iran-U.S. ties |

The new Iranian ambassador to the United Nations in New York, Mohammad-Javad Zarif, is commissioned by the Iranian administration to open new horizons in Iran-U.S. relations, the news website Emruz reported Sunday. Emruz quoted Zarif as saying that his main job was to âlobby with the three main political factions in the United Statesâ. "Three"? Democrats, Republicans, and... The New York Times? The Zionist Lobby®? The INS? âThe first success which must be achieved is hearing only one voice from Iran,â Zarif said, referring to several political sources in Iran commenting on the foreign policy issues and especially the U.S. but not reflecting the official stance of Iran and hence causing diplomatic complications. Actually they do represent both official stances... Zarif, a former deputy foreign minister appointed in June as new U.N. envoy, is considered as the number two in Iranâs foreign ministry â after Minister Kamal Kharrazi â and, as a close aide of President Mohammad Khatami, the main diplomatic bridge between Teheran and international communities. Zarif had arranged the 1997 summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Teheran and is one of the main advocators of Khatamiâs âDialogue among Civilizationsâ.
