We had dancing in the streets, too... |

Another thing I never noticed, perhaps because they are so outnumbered, is that there are hundreds of thousands of Arabs in New York. The shopkeepers and news vendors we run across look distinctly non-happy. Heads down, concealing their accents, pretending they're Greeks. But radio callers-in report -- I haven't seen this in media -- that in Bay Ridge and Astoria there was dancing in the streets. Adults distributed candy to children to help them remember the happy occasion. (Virginia Postrel) |
