Russian airbase in southwest Latakia comes under heavy attack
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the fourth time this month, the Russian Hmeimim Airbase has come under heavy attack from rebel drones.According to a military source in Latakia, the jihadist rebels launched a drone attack on the northeastern perimeter of the Hmeimim Airbase in the southwestern countryside of the province. In response to the drones entering their airspace, the Russian air defense deployed their missiles in a bid to foil the attack. The military source said the drone attack was foiled by the Russian air defense after a brief confrontation this evening. The source added that the Russian and Syrian air forces are likely preparing to launch a big attack on the Jisr al-Shughour District, following this latest provocation. Earlier this month, the jihadist rebels in the Jisr al-Shughour District launched three drone attacks on the Hmeimim Airbase; however, all of their attempted strikes were foiled before they could do any damage to the installation.
