Food situation dramatic in N. Korea, WFP says
[Kyodo: Korea] The U.N. World Food Program said Wednesday that a drying up of international food aid has given rise to a ""dramatic"" food shortage in North Korea and the WFP has been forced to scale back emergency operations trying to feed millions of hungry in the North. At a press conference in Beijing to call donor-community attention to what it called a severe situation in the reclusive North, WFP country representative Torben Due said only slightly more than 2 million of a planned 6.2 million people are now receiving food aid under its humanitarian food program.Posted by: Fred 2009-07-02 |
