EU-3 seek urgent meeting on Iran
Britain, France and Germany are to call an emergency meeting of the UN nuclear watchdog in early February to discuss Iran's nuclear program, the UK Foreign Office has said. "The EU-3 informed the other participants of their intention to call for an extraordinary IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) board of governors meeting on the 2nd and 3rd of February," a Foreign Office spokesman told AFP on Monday. Reuters reports that European powers have also began drafting a resolution to have Iran referred to the UN Security Council next month over its nuclear work, diplomats said, after Russia and the West neared agreement in dealing with Tehran. Iran's resumption of nuclear research has sparked a flurry of Western diplomacy in pursuit of an IAEA vote that could see Iran slapped with UN sanctions. American and EU officials say Iran has failed to prove that its program to develop fuel for civilian atomic energy is not being used as a cover for producing nuclear weapons.
