PP admits to legal 'manipulation' aka wrong-doing for money.
[Wash Times] In a letter to Congress intended to defend its practices and attack its hidden-video critics, Planned Parenthood wound up lending credence to accusations that it manipulates rules on selling fetal organs to maximize profit.

Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, admitted in an 11-page letter Thursday that its affiliates have accepted payments ranging from $45 to $60 "per tissue specimen" from abortions, but said that they were reimbursements to cover costs, which federal law allows.

MERS deaths in KSA passes 500 mark
[ARABNEWS] Deaths from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrom (MERS) coronavirus in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
has jumped to 502 with the announcement of four more fatalities on Thursday.

The Ministry of Health reported that the latest victims were all Saudis based in Riyadh, including three males aged 75, 63 and 58, and a woman aged 87.

Six new cases were also reported in Riyadh, with four at death's door. Six of the new cases are women with ages ranging from 25 to 77. The lone male new case is 78 years old.

The new cases brings the total to 1,171 in the kingdom since June 2012 when the coronavirus was first discovered. Of the total, 502 have died, 605 have recovered and the rest are under treatment.

The spike in MERS has is worrying because of the upcoming annual pilgrimage, according to Dr. Hanan Balkhi, head of the Health Ministry's national scientific committee of infectious diseases.

Colorized fotos from the old west
The violence and romance of the Wild West is depicted on screen, but now, iconic historical pictures from the era have been brought to life by an eighteen-year-old student.

Jared Enos, a student from North Kingston, Rhode Island, spent up to six hours digitally coloring each iconic picture - dating from 1864 to 1910 - to give a fresh look at the frontier period that began with English settlements in the early 17th century.

A powerful reminder of a pivotal period in American history, these painstakingly colorized photographs range from portraits of legendary gunslinger Wild Bill Hickock and President Lincoln's assassination conspirator David E. Herold, to the cowboy, the quintessential symbol of the time.

Europe
Krauthammer: Champ's diplo 'reset' has let Putin get away with murder
[Telegraph] America's allies have noticed that it is no longer willing to defend them from the predations of a rampant, imperialist Russia.

On September 5, 2014, Russian agents crossed into Estonia and kidnapped an Estonian security official. Last week, after a closed trial, Russia sentenced him to 15 years.

The reaction? The State Department issued a statement. The Nato secretary-general issued a tweet. Neither did anything. The European Union said it was too early to discuss any possible action.

The timing of this brazen violation of Nato territory -- two days after President Obama visited Estonia to symbolize America's commitment to its security -- is testimony to Vladimir Putin's contempt for the American president. He knows Obama will do nothing. Why should he think otherwise?

Greece appoints first female PM ahead of snap poll
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Greece's first female prime minister, a top judge, was sworn in on Thursday to head a caretaker government ahead of snap elections next month in the bailout-dependent country.

Supreme Court head Vassiliki Thanou, 65, was appointed after leftist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras resigned, seeking a stronger mandate to implement tough austerity measures demanded by Greece's creditors in return for a third bailout worth 86 billion euro ($97 billion).

Her main task will be to hold the reins until a new government emerges from the vote expected on September 20.

"But, given the circumstances ... I believe that this government will also have to handle crucial matters," Thanou said in her first public comments in office, singling out for mention Greece's immigration crisis.

Since January, the financially struggling country has received more than 160,000 mainly Syrian refugees and economic migrants - a record number - who arrive in boats from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Europe's new stealth combat drone has successfully completed 12 highly sensitive test sorties in Italy
The first example of the nEUROn UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) has successfully completed its flight test campaign in the Perdasdefogu range, Sardinia, Italy.

The nEUROn is a full-scale technological demonstrator for a UCAV developed by an industrial team led by Dassault Aviation with the collaboration of Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi, Saab, Airbus Defence and Space, RUAG and HAI representing France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland and Greece that rolled out on Jan. 20, 2012, after five years of design, development, and static testing.

The shape of the nEUROn reminds that of the American X-47B (even though, from a certain angle it also shows a certain resemblance to the F-117 Nighthawk...).

During the deployment at Italian Air Force's Decimomannu airbase, the stealth killer drone demonstrator flew 12 highly sensitive sorties to assess its low radar-cross section and low infrared signature, during missions flown at different altitudes and flight profiles and against both ground-based and air radar "threats", using in this latter case, a Eurofighter Typhoon.

The next testing phase will see the European UCAV deploy to Vidsel Air Base, in Sweden, for more low observability tests and some live firing activity needed to validate the capability of the nEUROn to use weapons carried in the internal weapons bay.

Wife, sons assault man, leave him chained
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A vendor was allegedly beaten up by his wife and children and then left chained in his home in Naseerabad on Wednesday.

Upon hearing the victim, Saleem Khan's cries, the neighbours called Rescue 1122 who then shifted him to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

During medical examination, torture marks were found on the victim's body, although a final report is awaited.

"After the medical examination report is received a case will be registered with the police on the complaint of the victim," Sub-inspector Zulfiqar Ali said.

He added that the victim claimed that following a disagreement over his three-year-old daughter, his two sons, Naveeb, 17, and Sowab, 18, and his wife began to beat him and later chained him.

"I was beaten up by my wife and two sons, who later chained my legs and locked me in a room, after which they escaped to their native town in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
," Khan said in his statement.

Police officials said that neighbours reported that in the 18 months since the family shifted to the area, they were often found quarrelling over petty issues.

Japan Launches New Carrier, "Kaga"
Japan has launched the second in its new class of helicopter carrier ‐ the largest Japanese ships since World War II ‐ in a Thursday ceremony in Yokohama.

The 24,000-ton Kaga (DDH-184) ‐ built by ship builder Japan Marine United ‐ bears the same name as the World War II Imperial Japanese Navy carrier Kaga that was part of Pearl Harbor attack and was sunk in the Battle Midway.

The ship follows JS Izumo (DDH-183) which entered service in the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) in March.

The Japanese have said the primary roles of the two ships are anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) operations.

#9  Good planning. It seems to be commissioned as one thing but can, relative to building a completed, more strategic replacement; be resourced efficiently as a "Transformered" asset.

This, as contrasted with our Military procurement system (Motto: "Can we get it in different colors?").
