Bangladeshi pleads guilty to attempted bribery of FBI agent
[Dhaka Tribune] Two Connecticut men, including a Bangladeshi national, have pleaded guilty of bribery charges, admitting that they tried to bribe a former FBI agent in the US for access to confidential documents concerning a prominent Bangladeshi politician.

Johannes Thaler, 51, of Fairfield County, and Rizve Ahmed âCaesar,â 35, of Danbury, pleaded guilty before US District Judge Vincent L Briccetti of the Southern District of New York.

They also admitted that they had participated in a scheme to obtain confidential, internal law enforcement documents and information from a former FBI special agent in White Plains, New York.

Both Thaler and Rizve admitted to participating in a bribery scheme with Robert Lustyik, a former FBI special agent in White Plains who worked on the counterintelligence squad.

In pleading guilty, Thaler and Rizve admitted that between September 2011 and March 2012, Thaler and Lustyik solicited bribes from Rizve, in exchange for Lustyikâs agreement to provide internal, confidential documents and other confidential information to which Lustyik had access by virtue of his position as an FBI special agent.

Indian player dies from injury in goal celebration
[ARABNEWS] The Mizoram Football Association says a 23-year-old Indian soccer player has died after injuring his spine while celebrating a goal with somersaults.

Peter Biaksangzuala landed on his back while doing flips last Tuesday in the northeastern state of Mizoram. He died Sunday.

Biaksangzuala scored in the 62nd minute. After his celebration went bad, he was stretchered off the field to a local hospital.

Mizoram Football Association general secretary Lalnghinglova Hmar called Biaksangzuala "a very good and disciplined footballer" who hoped to play in the national I-League.

The football association is planning to organize a match in his memory.

Bioethicist questions CPR in advanced Ebola cases
RTWT.
Here's the gist:
Patients with Ebola should receive all medical measures and experimental interventions including ICU care. This includes massive fluid replacement and dialysis which has been reportedly employed. But the line should be drawn at CPR. Unilateral do-not-resuscitate orders would seem justifiable under these circumstances, if surrogates do not otherwise agree to a DNR order.

The utility of CPR should be discussed with patients and surrogates as with any other patient. Patients and families should be assured of all available intensive care and comfort measures but the presumption of resuscitation should be reconsidered in acute care settings. Hospitals should develop policies that reflect their views on resuscitation before a patient arrives. State departments of health and federal officials should review laws -- and policies -- on presumed resuscitation, as they relate to Ebola, clinical practice and the public health. These policies should emphasize proportionate, compassionate and realistic goals of care and must also protect staff from post-hoc reassessment of their actions.

CPR isn't very useful in any circumstance other than a witnessed, in-hospital arrest. The data show that survival to discharge is low otherwise. Survival in out of hospital CPR situations is (in some studies) less than one percent of cases. The ethicist has a point.

Seven Liberian soldiers succumb to Ebola, possibly contracted in barracks
Authorities at the Ministry of National Defense in Monrovia have confirmed the death of several soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia after they contacted the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

Names of the soldiers were not provided, but sources at the Edward Binyan Kesselley Barracks along the Robertsfield highway say the barracks has become a "no go area" for visitors. The Chief of Staff and Commanding Officer of the AFL, David Zhankan, has instituted several new and stronger measures to combat the deadly virus.

According to reports, strangers or visitors wearing short sleeves are not allowed in the barracks, which hosts hundreds of soldiers. This paper also gathers that huge portion of the barracks has been quarantined with about 30 soldiers currently being put in holding centers.

According to information, a female visitor with the disease, who had gone to the barracks to visit one of the officers, without realizing that she was carrying the Ebola virus transmitted the disease to her host, further spreading it to six additional officers, said to be very close friends.

Another account had it that a woman, visiting the barracks recently from Tubmanburg, Bomi County, had fallen ill and rushed to the military clinic for treatment at Camp Kesselly, when medical practitioners contracted the disease.

As a result of the outbreak, officers, who had earlier left the barracks apparently to visit family members and relatives in Monrovia and other parts of the country, are reportedly hesitant to return to base, while their commanders continue to make both cell phone and radio calls to them on a daily basis.

US imposes minimal travel restrictions on visitors from the Ebola Hot Zone
The Obama administration will require all travelers from countries affected by the Ebola epidemic to arrive at one of five major U.S. airports in order to undergo a health screening, officials announced Tuesday.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) measure responds to lawmakers' calls for the government to take additional steps to ensure no one carries Ebola into the United States.

The administration previously instituted special Ebola screenings at five airports: Washington Dulles International Airport, O'Hare International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Now, people arriving from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone will be required to travel through one of those ports of entry to ensure they undergo an interview and a temperature check. The policy will take effect on Wednesday.

“We are working closely with the airlines to implement these restrictions with minimal travel disruption,” DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said Tuesday.

...The White House said that airlines will cover the cost of rebooking passengers scheduled to arrive at U.S. airports off the designated list. A spokesman estimated the group would be smaller than 10 people per day.

Roughly 1,000 people travel to the United States every week from West Africa.
I only care about people arriving from the Hot Zone, not from places like Nigeria, which is also in West Africa.
As part of the [current] screening process, passengers are interviewed about their travel history and possible exposure to Ebola. They also undergo a temperature check, as fever is one of Ebola's earliest symptoms. There are no rapid diagnostic tests for the disease.

The screenings are designed to alert officials to passengers who may be at high risk of carrying the virus, even if they do not catch every Ebola case. Interviewees provide identification and contact information in the United States, allowing public health officials to follow up if needed.
...
"The administration must do more to protect Americans," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) in a statement.

“President Obama has a real solution at his disposal under current law and can use it at any time to temporarily ban foreign nationals from entering the United States from Ebola-ravaged countries. The vast majority of Americans strongly support such a travel moratorium and I urge the president to take every step possible to protect the American people from danger.”
Protecting the American people is not on the Obamagenda

WHO declares Nigeria Ebola-free; lessons learned
(Reuters) - Nigeria was declared free of the deadly Ebola virus on Monday after a determined doctor and thousands of officials and volunteers helped end an outbreak still ravaging other parts of West Africa and threatening the United States and Spain.

Caught unawares when a diplomat arrived with the disease from Liberia, authorities were alerted by Doctor Ameyo Adadevoh, who diagnosed it, kept him in hospital despite protests from him and his government and later died from Ebola herself.

They then set about trying to contain it in an overcrowded city of 21 million where it could easily have turned a doomsday scenario if about 300 people who had been in direct or indirect contact with him not been traced and isolated.

"This is a spectacular success story," Rui Gama Vaz from the World Health Organization (WHO) told a news conference...

STAND YOUR GROUND

It was imported to Nigeria when Liberian-American diplomat Patrick Sawyer collapsed at the main international airport in Lagos on July 20. Airport staff were unprepared and the government had not set up any hospital isolation unit, so he was able to infect several people, including health workers in the hospital where he was taken, some of whom had to restrain him to keep him there.

Lagos, the commercial hub of Africa's most populous nation, largest economy and leading energy producer, would have been an ideal springboard for Ebola to spread across the country.

Adadevoh, doctor on call at the First Consultants hospital in Lagos where Sawyer was brought, prevented the dying man from spreading it further, Benjamin Ohiaeri, a doctor there who survived the disease, told Reuters.

Ebola is much more contagious once symptoms become severe.

"We agreed that the thing to do was not to let him out of the hospital," Ohiaeri said, even after he became aggressive and demanded to be set free. "If we had let him out, within 24 hours of being here, he would have contacted and infected a lot more people."

Sawyer was reported only to have malaria, Ohiaeri said. But Adadevoh noticed he had bloodshot eyes and was passing blood in his urine -- telltale signs of hemorrhagic fever. She left instructions by his bed that under no circumstances should anyone let him leave.

At one point, Sawyer ripped off his intravenous tube and a nurse had to put it back, according to a source close to the hospital staff. She later got infected and died. Sawyer then became aggressive and had to be physically restrained.

Ohiaeri said a Liberian government official on the phone had even threatened negative consequences if they did not release Sawyer, saying that holding him was tantamount to kidnapping.

"The lesson there is: stand your ground," he said...

Alex Okoh, Nigeria's director of Port health services, said the lesson the United States and other countries can learn from Nigeria is to "put aside the political barriers and focus on the issues at hand".

In Zimbabwe, another Mugabe seeks the presidency
[Dhaka Tribune] President Robert Mugabeâs wife Grace Mugabe has begun swiftly and in earnest to succeed her husband as leader of Zimbabwe, and in the past two months the she has been using the budget and the jets and helicopters of her husband to travel up and down the country in a âcharm offensiveâ to rally support.

Ms. Mugabe, 40 years junior to her husband, is seeking to position herself as a second vice-president of Zimbabwe â ready to take control should President Mugabe, who turns 91 this year, step down or pass away, according to a report by The Christian Science Monitor.

Mugabe has been in office for nearly three decades. But the first lady faces stiff resistance from the presidentâs fellow liberation-struggle cadres, who have elbowed each other for power for years â especially current first Vice President Joice Mujuru, considered a prime successor.

Two months ago Ms. Mugabe was nominated as head of the womenâs wing of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) Patriotic Front (PF). Sheâs since used the spot to court church leaders, traditional chiefs, and youth â often hosting them in lavish parties at the plush family estate in Mazowe, a small town just north of the capital, Harare.

Mugabe has been ailing and has traveled to a number of overseas medical facilities. Heâs rumored to possibly step down prior to 2018 when his term ends. He has hinted he may retire from the ZANU PF party leadership, though heâs accepted the nomination to lead the party congress in December.

Under Zimbabweâs new constitution, that congress is where Grace Mugabe would need to become second in command to her husband in order to then snatch the top job.

Ms. Mugabe has shown herself willing to take on the same kind of tough approach to politics that her husband is known for. She recently told a gathering that she was ready to âspill bloodâ in defense of the vast empire grabbed from white farmers during the chaotic land reform that started in 2000.

Arabia
Oil market battles weak demand, ample supplies
[ARABNEWS] Saudi crude exports fell in August for the fourth month in a row to their lowest levels in three years, official data showed on Monday, as the top oil exporter fights for market share amid weak demand and ample supplies from rival producers.

Saudi crude exports have been sliding in the past few months as shale oil squeezes Saudi oil out of US markets and as demand in Asia, particularly in China, has been slower than expected.

The OPEC heavyweight exported 6.663 million barrels per day in August, down from 6.989 million bpd in July, according to data from the Joint Organizations Data Initiative (JODI).

The August export figures were the lowest since March 2011 and down from 7.795 million in August last year. They compared with 6.946 million bpd in June and 6.987 million bpd in May.

North America's shale boom has started to squeeze Saudi oil out of the US market, the International Energy Agency said in a report last month, estimating Saudi exports would run below 7 million bpd for the last four months of the year.

US imports of crude oil from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
averaged around 1.0-1.2 million bpd from May to August, compared with around 1.3-1.6 million bpd from mid-2013 through April 2014, analysis of data from the US Energy Information Administration and Thomson Rooters Trade Flows shows.

Haia chief verbally assaulted in mosque
[ARABNEWS] A member of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) verbally abused the chief of the organization, Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh, at a mosque on Sunday, according to a local newspaper. Turki Al-Shulail, front man of the Haia, said the incident happened shortly after the noon prayer in the mosque at the Haia headquarters in Riyadh.

"A Haia staff member approached the sheikh and started talking to him in an impolite manner using derogatory words even though the sheikh gently asked him to calm down. However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the man continued his impudent manner of speaking and upset the worshippers, until some security officers led him out of the mosque," the daily quoted Al-Shulail as saying.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, Gloria slowly backed away from the eight-foot bull frog. If the creature croaked she would surely be deafened...
the organization said a Haia man was hurt while trying to arrest a man for allegedly insulting a woman. The man is in jug and an investigation is underway.

According to sources, the Haia chief contacted the victim to check on his health.

Mohammed Alsharimi, deputy front man of the Haia in Riyadh, said the member broke some of his fingers while attempting to arrest the citizen on Saturday evening.

Alsharimi said the citizen has a criminal record. The injured member received treatment and is in good condition, he said.

There have been 25 cases of assault on Haia members in 2013 and 2014.

The Hunt For Red October Continues
Shit just got real for Vlad...
Recall that over the weekend, one of the less reported stories was that Sweden had deployed its various army, navy and air force units to hunt down what was reportedly a damaged Russian sub that had sunk in the Stockholm archipelago, something which Russia vehemently denied.

Since then, things have escalated and as both the FT and RIA reported, Swedish authorities declared a safety distance of 10,000 meters (5.4 nautical miles) from all military vessels taking part in the search for the alleged foreign sub.

In fact it has gotten to the point where Sweden may simply blow up the offending military equipment just to make the point that "The most important value of the operation - regardless of whether we find something -- is to send a very clear signal that Sweden and its armed forces are acting and are ready to act when we think this kind of activity is violating our borders," Supreme Commander General Sverker Göranson said.
Imagine that - a country that's interested in defending its borders!

Donetsk premier says shelling undermines negotiations

The prime minister of Donetsk said Monday that constant shelling during the truce has undermined negotiations with the Ukrainian government, according to a news account posted on the online edition of RIA Novositi.

The announcement came after a Ukrainian artillery unit hit an area where the Donetsk deputy prime minister, Andrei Purgin was holding a meeting. According to a news report the shell was a Tochka-U tactical ballistic missile which landed on a nearby soccer field.

Ukrainian news sources including the ATO Press Center's Facebook account said that the ballistic missile attack was faked, and that the photos used to describe the scene were previously used in June.

Donetsk city and its surrounding suburbs and districts have been subjected to Ukrainian artillery since the very start of the truce in September 5th. Another protocol adopted on September 19th said that both sides were to withdraw all heavy weapons from a demarcation line, one part of which runs through the western part of Donetsk city. The protocol called for all heavy weapons 100mm or larger be withdrawn by both sides to a distance of 15 kilometers.

According to numerous reports, both sides continue to fire on one another's positions using artillery rockets as heavy as 240mm.

Since the start of the truce, the primary issue between the two combatants has been the Donetsk airport, which is located on the northern edge of Donetsk city. That position was occupied by Ukrainian military forces until 10 days ago, when militia forces attempted to storm the area.

Both sides suffered heavy losses in the fighting which continued today as militia forces claimed they knocked out four Ukrainian tanks, said to be 1960s era T-64 main battle tanks (MBT). It has been known since last week that the Ukrainians have been trying to reinforce their positions at the airport with armor and have been rotating forces between that location and the town of Peski, southwest of Donetsk and Avdeyevka to the northeast. The Ukrainian positions are now greatly reduced to just the control tower and one other building because of repeated attempts by militia forces to eject them from the airport.

Ukrainian and pro Ukrainian media have made fun of a quote reported last week that militia fighters likened by Ukrainian troops holding the airport as "cyborgs", a clear reference to Hollywood and European science fiction films, because of the great difficulty in assaulting -- and taking -- a fixed, reinforced position. The Ukrainians are taking advantage of a system of underground maintenance and drainage tunnels as well as cold war era nuclear bomb-proof shelters.

Donetsk and the Milan meeting

The meeting between Russian president Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian president Piotr Poroshenko concluded Friday with no clear agreement on the fighting in southeastern Ukraina, but with a tentative agreement of natural gas shipments to Ukrainia, and Ukrainian debt used to pay for prior shipments.

According to a Reuters news account published online three days ago, Putin met with Poroshenko one on one towards the end of Friday, with the resulting understanding that Russian natural gas shipments would resume in time for winter. European press lamented that an agreement could not be forged between Russia and Ukrainia on the war in Donetsk and Lugansk.

Winter in the Donbas region is expected to come before November 15th.

Last week, Poroshenko signed a new law which granted both rebel oblasts "special status", which would enable them to elect representatives normally appointed by a governor appointed by Poroshenko. Since the new law was signed just hours before the Milan meeting, Andrei Purgin called it a bluff, since no area in Ukraina has been mentioned in the law, although such status was included as a Ukrainian requirement in the original Minsk ceasefire agreement. Another problem with the new law is that it is limited to three years.

For his part Zakharshenko announced that elections intended to convene a Donetsk legislature and a chief executive would take place on December 2nd as planned. Zakharshenko is himself running for a seat in the putative parliament, presumably in hopes of taking the presidency.

Ukraina is holding parliamentary elections next Sunday, October 26th, after Poroshenko dissolved the Verkhovna Rada earlier last month.

Zakharshenko has been under enormous stress from several top militia commanders who complain that Zakharshenko signed Donetsk's and Lugansk's rights away at the Minsk ceasefire negotiations. One of the central beefs is the location of the demarcation line which erased all gains made by militia forces since late August, which also put Donetsk city in range of Ukrainian artillery. Zakharsheko has been silent on the issue, ex officio, preferring instead to electioneer for November 2nd.

A Twitter account, said to be part of the Donetsk government quoted Zakharsheno as saying the truce was terminated. Russian military blogger Colonel Cassad reported on the tweet saying that Ukrainian military forces continue to build up forces to the immediate west of Donetsk and Lugansk and that an offensive, previously said to begin this week, may begin after the end of the fall rains and the start of winter, about mid November.

Talks between Russian and Ukraina are expected to resume October 21st in Brussels, Belgium, and are expected to include the war in southeastern Ukraina.

Fighting continues in Donetsk city

Shelling by both sides continued in Donetsk city. According to the pro Russian Voice of Sevatopol, Ukrainian artillery has been firing in support of its forces at the Donetsk airport all day Sunday, and militia artillerymen have been firing artillery against Ukrainian positions at the airport as well as in Peski and Avdeyevka. Ukrainian artillery have been firing counterbattery artillery missions as well.

Militia forces have reported Ukrainian artillery strikes in Donetsk in Kuibyshevsky, Kirovsky, Kievsky and Petrovsky districts. A Ukrainian tactical missile struck a chemical plant, causing a huge explosion and fire. Ukrainian press say that the building hit was an ammunition plant.

Polish ex-minister quoted saying Putin offered to divide Ukraine
Poland's parliamentary speaker, Radoslaw Sikorski, was quoted as saying that Vladimir Putin proposed to Poland's then leader in 2008 that they divide Ukraine between themselves.

Sikorski, who until September served as Poland's foreign minister, was quoted saying that Putin made the proposal during Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's visit to Moscow in 2008 - although he later said some of the interview had been "overinterpreted".

Sikorski said, "He wanted us to become participants in this partition of Ukraine ... This was one of the first things that Putin said to my prime minister, Donald Tusk, when he visited Moscow. He (Putin) went on to say Ukraine is an artificial country and that Lwow is a Polish city and why don't we just sort it out together."

Sikorski, who accompanied Tusk on his trip to Moscow, was quoted as saying Tusk did not reply to Putin's suggestion, because he knew he was being recorded, but Poland never expressed any interest in joining the Russian operation. Sikorski was quoted as saying, "We made it very, very clear to them - we wanted nothing to do with this."

After publication of the interview, Sikorski said it was not entirely accurate.

"Some of the words have been overinterpreted," Sikorski wrote on his Twitter account late on Monday, adding that Poland does not take part in annexations.

Vegetarians have much lower sperm counts
h/t Instapundit
Vegetarians and vegans may be harming their chance of having children after a study found that men who do not eat meat have significantly reduced sperm counts.

Although a diet that is rich in fruit and vegetables can protect against many illnesses and can prolong life, it appears that it may also harm fertility.

#1  Well that is encouraging especially since most vegetarians and vegans are out on the fringes of the left.

Sort of like abortion the left will gradually die out because they aren't reproducing.

Men were made to hunt and fish. Those who do not, defy the natural order and suffer the inevitable 'genetic drift' and reduction.

#10  Ever see the ones who waft frantically if the smell of meat comes by their table, as if everyone suddenly lit Davidoffs and blew that direction? They remind me of the glory days of Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

I don't mind people self styling their lifestyle, I trust them to make their own decisions, just don't get preachy - or a queen; also have yet to see studies done on strict vegan pregnant women.

#11  Of course, there are three possibilities here:

1) Vegetarianism results in lower sperm counts and lower sperm mobility (not hard to believe)

2) Men with low testosterone are more likely to adopt a vegetarian way of life (also not hard to believe, at all)

or even 3) People who are voluntary vegetarians also have other 'non mainstream habits', and it's those 'non mainstream habits' that reduce their sperm count (I don't have any problem believing that one either.)

Joko Widodo sworn in as new Indonesian president
[ARABNEWS] Joko Widodo completed a journey from riverside shack to presidential palace on Monday, cheered through the streets following his inauguration by tens of thousands of ordinary Indonesians in a reminder to the opposition-controlled Parliament of the strong grass-roots support that swept him to power.

The 53-year-old must make tough decisions, and soon, to stand a chance of boosting economic growth in Indonesia, a sprawling nation of 250 million people. Supporters have already expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s any reforms he tries to enact could be blocked by a hostile opposition led by the Suharto-era general he defeated in July's election.

But those thoughts were put aside momentarily Monday when Widodo and his deputy traveled from the Parliament building to the presidential palace in an organized public party, the first in the country's history following an inauguration. After a few kilometers (miles), he left his car and took a horse and cart, flashing victory signs and shaking countless hands.

Biden's Son Keeps Law License Despite Drug-Related Navy Reserve Discharge
[Breitbart] Despite being cashiered out of the Navy Reserve for testing positive for cocaine, Vice President Joe Biden's son is still being allowed to practice law and won't lose his Connecticut law license.

Late last week the Wall Street Journal reported that in February of this year Hunter Biden, 44, tested positive for cocaine during a drug test administered by the Navy and was immediately discharged from the Navy Reserve. Days later the Connecticut Bar announced that it was not initiating any reviews of the younger Biden's law license.
Connecticut Bar...? No surprises, chalk it up to professional courtesy. USN and NIS however; Character of Discharge? No discovery? No need to investigate further, regarding sources of the illegal drugs or potential user network? Nicely handled DoD.
Wonder how many non-Bidens snort coke and remain members of the Connecticut bar...

#2  Nah. Snorting coke isn't against ethics rules. Besides, if every lawyer who did was disbarred, there wouldn't be many left in practice. What state bar disciplinary committees go after is "crimes of moral turpitude." Lying, misrepresentation, fraud, etc. Now, those often flow from a drug problem. But in general, the standards for the legal profession are a lot lower than for the military. Shocking, I know.

#3  RandomJD, isn't possession/use of cocaine a felony?
Posted by: Rambler in Virginia || 10/21/2014 16:22 Comments || Top||

#4  Coming up HOT on a urinalysis does not constitute possession. Of course, had Biden been a common officer or ranker, a no-notice search of his domicile might have resulted in hard evidence and questioning, would could have produced further discovery and arrests. The privileged enjoy the privilege.

#5  Disbarring a lawyer faces the same resistance that impeaching a congressman does.
They all think it sets a bad precendent.
Posted by: ed in texas || 10/21/2014 20:09 Comments || Top||

#6  Rambler, I assume that is usually the case. But a felony just means an offense that could result in a sentence of one year or longer. As opposed to misdemeanors, which carry a sentence of less than one year.

Not all felonies are considered crimes of moral turpitude - those which demonstrate a person's proclivity to lie or cheat for personal gain. The issue is trust. Basically, as long as you're not mishandling money, you almost have to try to get disbarred.

My favorite example: a foreign doctor came to the US, got a law degree, then opened a personal injury practice. He was disbarred after it came to light that he was giving female clients a "medical exam" and legal advice all in one visit.

Not to defend this privileged schmo - just to illustrate what disciplinary committees are concerned with. From the state bar's standpoint, a little recreational drug use, on its own, doesn't make a person likely to abuse the public's trust.

#7  So, what RandomJD means is: yeah, Connecticut lawyers pretty much all stoke themselves up with blow.
Posted by: rammer || 10/21/2014 21:01 Comments || Top||

#8  Thank you for the explanation, dear RandomJD. This explains why an acquaintance from back home, a longtime and much respected attorney for the county in a variety of capacities, has never worried about his equally long addiction to pot.
Posted by: trailing wife || 10/21/2014 22:22 Comments || Top||

#9  Rammer: only on the weekends! :)

In all seriousness: lawyers are notorious substance abusers, and substance abusers are notorious thieves and liars. So state bars care a LOT about addiction problems.

So much, that my state bar required more documentation from me, than the military did for a security clearance. In particular, I had to submit all my medical records. I mean, ALL. They were looking for evidence of substance abuse. All they got was evidence of a squeaky clean cervix. Hope they enjoyed it. Pervs.

Anyway. When a lawyer does have a drug/alcohol problem, predictably, state bars' emphasis is on rehabilitation, not punishment. So Junior here may not be facing any disciplinary action, but he'll be monitored for signs of chronic abuse. He wouldn't be the only Biden with a drug problem.
