Most Shooters In Chicago Don't Face Charges
[DNAINFO] It's getting easier to get away with shooting people in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...

Last year, gunnies who shot and maimed someone got away without criminal charges 94 percent of the time, according to a DNAinfo.com Chicago analysis of police data.

That's even worse than 2011, when 91.5 percent of shooters escaped charges, according to the data.

Chicago's top cop said the "no-snitch" code of silence on the street is the biggest contributor in his department's struggle to charge shooters.

"The challenges we have to get charges in a significant number of cases is very difficult when witnesses and victims choose not to cooperate," Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said in an interview with DNAinfo.com Chicago.
The bad boys fear each other far more than they fear you. And they know that there's no such thing as a safe 'segregation' block in prison...
"To make cases prosecutable we need cooperative witnesses -- and those go out the window right up front. We have a victim today who is an offender tomorrow. It's a vicious circle. There are a lot of people who are not going to cooperate," he said. "That's why we have to take on the no-snitch issue."

In 2012, Chicago police cleared 211 aggravated battery with a firearm cases -- 11 percent of the 1,893 incidents where someone was shot and maimed during the calendar year.

But of those cases, only 111 shootings -- about 6 percent -- resulted in charges. The other 100 cases were "cleared exceptionally," which means police know who the shooter is but were unable to bring charges, the state's attorney wouldn't bring charges, a victim refused to testify after identifying a shooter or the offender was dead.
The sad truth is that if you don't push white powder up your nose, and stay out of neighborhoods where white powder is sold, and don't make yourself the easiest target in the world on the street, you don't have much to fear in Chicago.

When you create tribes, loyalty to the tribes trumps loyalty to the overall community. A political machine based upon tribes creates the ineffectiveness as power trumps justice.

#7  I remember an article about DC during the Marion Barry era. Only 30% of the murder cases resulted in an arrest. Almost all of those cases involved a White or Black middle class victim. Almost all the other cases were closed when the primary suspect was killed.

You still can't get away with murder, but you can decide who's going to punish you.

#8  Illinois Today - Your State Tomorrow?

Here are a couple of interesting facts I ran across:
For every Cop Rahm 'hired' in 2012, six have retired.
There hasn't been a Detective's Class in over five years.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has shut down two prisons and sold an unopened one to the Feds.
Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the nation.
Illinois is the only state or territory without concealed carry.

Police Superintendant McCarthy repeatedly says CRIME IS DOWN

And the Chicago Media, ALL OF IT, fearful of not being invited to the right parties or getting their tickets fixed don't call him and Rahm on it!

Be sure to thank a Democrat

#9  Chicago's top cop said the "no-snitch" code of silence on the street is the biggest contributor in his department's struggle to charge shooters.

Perhaps but a friend's recent experience with an attempted home invasion in a very blue city leads me to believe that the priorities of the police likely also play a significant role.

My friend was alerted mid-evening to someone attempting to enter via her front door. She retrieved one of her handguns, called 911 & waited. Finding the door locked the would-be home invader attempted to kick the door down, failed and after a few minutes returned to his car and drove away.

The police arrived almost concurrent with the criminal's departure. My friend, observing their arrival on one of her surveillance cameras, stowed her handgun and opened the door. Rather than taking her description and attempting to apprehend the criminal (whom they had likely just passed on the street) they merely informed her that she was in no danger, that there was no way to locate the perp, that he was just a drunk or addict who'd confused her home with his and not a 'criminal' (!), and that he'd not return.

They did, however, notice a spare clip she'd not stowed at which point they told her that she should have informed the 911 dispatcher that she was armed as they would have arrived much sooner if they'd been made aware of that fact. They then began to attempt to question her about the number and type of firearms she kept in her home. She declined to answer but they persisted several more times in demanding information about her weapons.

Be careful out there folks, the union goons, err 'police', aren't necessarily on your side.

Girl Who Performed At Obama's Inauguration Shot Dead In Chicago
[OSUNDEFENDER.ORG] A 15-year-old girl who performed at President Obama's inauguration last week was shot dead Tuesday while hanging out with friends in bullet-scarred Chicago.

Hadiya Pendleton was standing under a canopy in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park when a gunman ran down an alley, opened fire at the group and fled in a white car, police said.

Pendleton was shot in the back but managed to run about a block before she collapsed, officer Laura Kubiak said. She died at the hospital.

A 16-year-old boy was wounded in the 2:20 p.m. incident. Police said Pendleton, who had no criminal record, was probably not the intended target.

Friends of the young majorette described her as a bubbly, well-liked student.

"She was always smiling and laughing," said Tyler Genovesi, 14. "She was just a really nice person. ... There's a lot of people crying in school today. It's very sad. The band is playing for her right now."

On Twitter, Pendleton's schoolmates were decrying the loss of innocent life.

"You are more than loved and missed," one wrote. "Your laugh smile and silly happy personality has made my day more times than I can remember. Nobody deserves this, especially not you."

The shooting happened in an upscale neighborhood where residents were shocked.

"I was torn apart," said Robin Hollis, who lives across the street from the park. "I cried when I heard about it."

Pendleton's murder was one of three shooting deaths in the city on Tuesday. More than 40 people have been shot dead in Chicago since the beginning of the year. The city leads the nation in guns seized by police.

Gomer makes it legal
Stop the presses, sir?
No, Johnson. I don't think that'll be necessary...

Actor Jim Nabors says marrying his longtime male partner doesn’t change anything about their relationship — he just wanted it to be formally acknowledged.

‘‘I just wanted it legal,’’ the 82-year-old actor best known as Gomer Pyle in ‘‘The Andy Griffith Show’’ told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Nabors married 64-year-old Stan Cadwallader in Seattle on Jan. 15. Nabors says they have been partners for 38 years. The couple met in 1975 when Cadwallader was a Honolulu firefighter.

Nabors said they flew from Honolulu just for the short ceremony and were married in a hotel room by a judge friend who drove up from Olympia, Wash.

#1  I don't see how the USS GUARDIAN can be deemed as "lost" - iff the US Navy-DOD can lift a larger, kaboom-damaged FFG out the water, place it on a barge, + tow it across the open ocean to repair back in CONUS, then the US Navy-DOD can salvage the GUARDIAN.

The only reason not to would be costs factors, not lack of salvage skill or capability.

#3  The problem with saving the hull is not the boat, it's the reef under the boat. The recovery of the Cole involved inflatable floats and a Dockwise semisubmersible ship, neither of which is really workable here, unless the recovery cranes can move it cleanly, probably after cutting a great deal of superstructure off of the boat in question.

Strip eveything useful or significant from it, and offer it for sale, where-is, as-is. Cash only.

'Not against Jewish faith' Mursi: comments taken out of context
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egypt's President Mohamed Mursi said on Wednesday spiteful remarks he made against Jews and Zionists in 2010 had been taken out of context.

"As I have said before the quotes were taken out of context... I am not against the Jewish faith, I am not against Jews who practice their religion," Mursi told a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.

"I was talking about the practices and behavior of believers of any religion who shed blood or who attack innocent people or civilians. That's the behavior that I condemn."

"I am a Muslim. I'm a believer and my religion obliges me to believe in all prophets, to respect all religions and to respect the right of people to their own faith," he added.

Berlin was alarmed by video content that emerged in recent weeks showing Mursi making the hurtful comments against Jews and Zionists, when he was a senior official of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Germany's Nazi past and strong support of Israel make it highly sensitive to anti-Semitism.

President Mursi flew to Berlin to try and convince Europe of his democratic credentials.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shattered spaceship, Fffflirgoll the Arcturan slithered stealthily toward the control room, where the humans had barricaded themselves...
German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged him to open a dialogue with all political forces in the crisis-ridden Arab country after a week of violence which killed more than 50 people.

"One thing that is important for us is that the line for dialogue is always open to all political forces in Egypt, that the different political forces can make their contribution, that human rights are adhered to in Egypt and that of course religious freedom can be experienced," Merkel told Mursi at a joint news conference.

'Holocaust was a myth invented by U.S'
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] A senior figure close to Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi provoked outrage today after claiming the Holocaust was a myth invented by the United States.

Fathi Shibab-Eddim, who is responsible for appointing editors of all the state-run newspapers, claimed the six million Jews killed by Hitler had actually been moved to America.

His comments came as the world marked Holocaust Remembrance day on Sunday and little more than a week after it emerged that President Morsi himself had once described Jews as 'descendants of apes and pigs'.

Shibab-Eddim said: 'The myth of the Holocaust is an industry that America invented.

'U.S. intelligence agencies in co-operation with their counterparts in allied nations during World War II created it [the Holocaust] to destroy the image of their opponents in Germany and to justify war and massive destruction against military and civilian facilities of the Axis powers, and especially to hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the atomic bomb.'

His views have sparked fears that the Egyptian Government, like Iran's, has significant elements that refuse to acknowledge one of the best-documented genocides in history.

The bizarre claims will also be especially concerning for Israel, which had fostered good relations with President Morsi's predecessor, Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted in 2011 following days of violent protests.

Efraim Zuroff, Israel Director of the Jerusalem-based Simon Weisenthal Center, whose mission is to defend against anti-Semitism and teach the lessons of the Holocaust to future generations, told FoxNews.com that Shibab-Eddim's views showed a dangerous mindset.

He said: 'Obviously, if a person in that position makes that ridiculous claim it is of concern.

Zimbabwe central bank now backs indigenisation laws
Zimbabwe's central bank chief who has previously warned government against the seizure of foreign banks on Thursday appeared to make an about-turn, but cautioned the process must be orderly.

"All banks should observe the laws of the country including the indigenisation ... law," Gideon Gono said in his monetary policy statement in Harare.

"The process to indigenise the banks should, however, take cognizance of the sensitivities around the operation of the banks to restore confidence, trust and stability in the sector."

Zimbabwe in 2007 adopted a law that forces foreign owned companies to sell 51 percent of shares to locals.

But last year the central bank governor warned the country's fragile economy could grind to a halt if the government rushed its planned seizure of majority stakes in foreign-owned banks.

Britain's Standard Chartered Bank and Barclays Bank, and South Africa's Standard Bank, are just some of the major foreign banks with operations in Zimbabwe.

Top African conglomerate, Ecobank earlier this month complied with the local regulations giving up majority stake stake to locals.

The black empowerment drive, which is being spear-headed by long ruling President Robert Mugabe saw the world's number two platinum miner Implats cede 51 percent of the shares in its local unit Zimplats, to Zimbabwean investors.

The campaign has been described as illegal and a threat to Zimbabwe's ailing economy by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

Gono said Zimbabwe's economy remains fragile with low export earnings, lack of credit lines or foreign direct investment resulting in the liquidity crunch.

Iranian $40 Million Platform Unit Sinks In Gulf
A $40 million engineering structure belonging to Iran's South Pars gas field, which was to be used in offshore platforms, sank into the Gulf as it was being installed, media said on Wednesday, as reported by AFP.

The equipment was built by Maritime Industrial Company (SADRA), an affiliate of the industrial wing of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, over a 30-month period."

An investigation is under way," SADRA's managing director Mehdi Etesami told the ISNA news agency, without elaborating.

The incident occurred Monday night as the 1,850-tonne jacket developed for South Pars Phase 13 sank to a depth of 80 meters (264 feet), media reports said, adding that there were no reports of any casualties.

As a result its links to the Guards, SADRA is subject to sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States over the Iranian regime’s nuclear program.
