Afghanistan
Council of Jihadi Party Launched in Kabul
[Tolo News] Afghanistan's former president Sebghatullah Mojaddedi on Thursday announced the establishment of a new political party -- the Council of Jihadi -- which aims to put pressure on the National Unity Government to bring about reform.

Mohadedi said that eight parties had come together to form the new party. According to him, the party's main aim is to fight corruption, bring peace and security to the country and to support civil action movements.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
the former vice president Mohammad Karim Khalili, who has also joined the party, said that they are completely non-partisan.

"The party is totally independent and has no links to government or any foreign countries," said Khalili.

The party said that they will support the National Unity Government but will also oppose it if necessary.

"Ghani's government has done good but it has also made mistakes. The party aims to bring about reforms," Mojaddedi added.

"The new party will support good performance by government but it will strongly oppose wrongdoing on the part of government," Khalili added.

But party members raised their concerns over interference in Afghan affairs by neighboring countries and said that most of the security issues stem from outside the country.

The party members said that they will support the grinding of the peace processor and will not allow any group to make Afghanistan a safe haven for terrorists.

"The party supports, and will defend, the grinding of the peace processor and the party will not allow Afghanistan to be a safe haven for terrorists," Khalili said.

The party called on anti-government groups to join the grinding of the peace processor.

"We call on Afghan Taliban to stop destroying their 'house'," said Qazi Amin Weqad one of the party members said.

In addition, Ahmad Zia Massoud, special envoy to Ghani, who was also present, says today was a historic moment in Afghan politics - where different role players came together to find solutions.

"Despite problems the country has seen development and Afghanistan has made some achievements," Massoud said.

According to him it is usual for political parties to come together during a crisis in order to find solutions for their country.

Massoud went on to say that nepotism is rife in the country and even political parties are formed on the back of it.

"We should weaken the tribal axis but strengthen the national axis as any tribal government does not have good consequences," Massoud said.

[YEMENONLINE.INFO] The Yemeni Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Ali Al-Maqdeshi confirmed that the decisive battle will soon take place, and the state will resume exercising its function on all Yemeni territories. Al-Maqdeshi said in statements to Al-Riyadh newspaper that the legitimate and coalition's forces are now close to Sanaa, and will liberate it within a few days, as all of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
will soon also be fully liberated, while pointing out that throughout this current stage, Yemen will no longer be in need of a landing operation after land interventions had been carried out with the support of the coalition countries. Al Maqdeshi revealed the presence of Iranian, Syrian, Lebanese, and Iraqi prisoners, who have recently entered to support the rebels.

New TV program to counter terrorism
[ARABNEWS] A new Saudi program on television called "Security of the Kingdom" will go on air on Tabah Channel starting on the first week of September, according to Dr. Mohsin Sheikh Al-Hassan, the program's host.

"The program is important and timely because of terrorism engendered by terrorist groups like Daesh and Al-Qaeda," said Al-Hassan, also a well-known writer, Islamic scholar and TV host.

Earlier, he hosted well-known TV programs "Jobs on Air" on Al-Danah Saudi TV and Al-Khair Yagma (Gathering for Happiness) on Al Margab Saudi TV.

Both "Jobs on Air" and "Al-Khair Al Yagma" were highly successful so that Al-Hassan's new television program is also expected to draw a lot of local viewers.

The program, which will discuss security issues as far as Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is concerned, will be on air for 45 to 60 minutes at 9 p.m. once a week. It's main goal is to engender patriotism and love of country.

"The program will do this by initially concentrating on children in kindergarten and teach them to love their own country," he said.

He said that it's easy to teach children good values like patriotism because they are young and have perceptive minds.

He added that the program is expected to counter the strategy of terrorist groups like Daesh and Al-Qaeda who concentrate on recruiting young children to be their followers.

"These groups recruit innocent kids through the social media like Facebook and Twitter or through WhatsApp. Step by step, these children are being brainwashed and innocently absorb terrorist ideas," he said.

He added that the program will eventually address students in high school, college and university.

Al-Hassan added that the program will be sponsored by various groups including businessmen, philanthropists, educators, among others.

"Many of them relish the idea because of its contemporary relevance. Terrorist groups strike fear and terror in society," said Al-Hassan, also known as media consultant.

Al-Assiri says allies don't eye territorial gains in Yemen
[ARABNEWS] Brig. Gen. Ahmed Al-Assiri, Saudi-led coalition's front man and Saudi Defense Ministry adviser and consultant, said that Saudi forces and the coalition don't have any territorial ambitions in Yemen.

"The Saudi-led coalition's incursions into Yemeni territories is a tactical move. The coalition has no ambitions as far as Yemeni territories are concerned," Al-Assiri told Al Jazeera.

He said the move is to prevent the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. militias and their cohorts from consolidating their forces in their continued support for former President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
who still has followers among Yemeni troops.

Al-Assiri added that the move is not also new as the Saudi-led coalition had been doing this since the start of the conflict early this year.

Stressing the coalition's success in its campaign against the Yemeni rebels, Al-Assiri said that the Houthis and their cohorts were now facing difficulties as they had suffered heavy losses in various fronts.

He said that they had found the need to boost the morale of their cohorts by targeting Saudi border posts. Such attacks have increased in frequency.

He added that the attacks have caused losses to Saudi troops and that because of this the Houthis won't achieve moral victory and the praise of God.

On future operations, he said: "It's difficult to comment on what would be done but we emphasize that the leadership and the coalition forces will take all necessary measures to prevent the Houthis from continuing their senseless acts."

He also noted that the military operation of the coalition is proceeding according to plan, and without haste, from the south to the north.

Al-Assiri stressed the necessity of eliminating the sources of fire by bombing which threaten the lives and citizens of Taiz before moving on to the next phase.

Yemen: No talks with Houthis until arms surrendered
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Yemeni government is not negotiating with Shiite Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. rebels who control the capital and much of the north, and demands that they lay down their arms, Foreign Minister Riad Yassin said on Thursday.

"The Houthis and (former President Ali Abdullah) Saleh's militias must implement the U.N. resolution and surrender their weapons, and only then the dialogue and political process can begin, with the participation of all Yemeni parties," Yassin told news hounds in Cairo after meeting with Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
Secretary General Nabil Nabil el-Araby.

Referring to reports of meetings in the Gulf nation of Oman, Yassin described them as mere "consultations" between U.N. envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and the Houthis, aimed at convincing them to implement a U.N. resolution from April.

That resolution requested that the Houthis withdraw from areas they seized and surrender weapons they took from military and state institutions.

"That is the only solution that is on the table; there is nothing else," said Yassin, who along with the rest of Yemen's internationally recognized government is in exile in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
.

Yemen's conflict pits the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and troops loyal to Saleh against an array of forces including southern separatists, local and tribal militias, Sunni Islamic bully boyz as well as troops loyal to President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

Bangladesh
Three remanded in Avijit murder case
[Dhaka Tribune] A Dhaka court yesterday paced three suspected members of banned murderous Moslem outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) on a three-day fresh remand in the case filed over the murder of secular blogger and writer Avijit Roy.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order after DB Inspector Md Fazlur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the trio before it seeking a 10-day fresh remand for interrogation.

The remanded accused are Mohammad Touhidur Rahman alias Gama, Md Sadek Ali Mithu, and Aminul Islam Mollik. Of them, Touhidur is a Bangladeshi-born UK citizen and IT expert.

The court also rejected their bail petitions submitted by defence counsels.

They were earlier remanded for three days on the same charge.

them in connection with the cases filed over the murders of Avijit and another Mukto-Mona blog writer Ananta Bijoy Das from the capital's Nilkhet and Dhanmondi areas on August 18.

After the arrests, RAB personnel at a press briefing told news hounds that Touhidur and Sadek had confessed to planning murder of both the bloggers.

They are followers of Ansarullah chief Jasim Uddin Rahmani, now undergoing trial for instigating militancy and the murder of another secular activist Ahmed Rajeeb Haider.

Touhidur closely followed Avijit and Ananta before the killings, RAB claims. Moreover, the duo said that five members of the murderous Moslem organization had taken part in the murder incidents.

Founder of Mukto-Mona blog Avijit was killed and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna critically injured when some youths attacked them with machetes near TSC intersection on Dhaka University campus on February 26. The couple, both US citizens, came to Bangladesh to attend Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

On the other hand, rationalist writer and banker by profession Ananta was hacked to death near his house in Subidbazar Bankalapara area of Sylhet city on May 12.

by the Detective Branch in the capital.

In separate drives, the DB police arrested Kauser Hossain Khan, 29, and Kamal Hossain Sarder, 29 -- both suspected members of the banned myrmidon outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team.

Kauser was picked up from the capital's Mirpur 10 area around 5pm yesterday and Kamal was arrested from Dholaipar area of Shyampur around 6:30pm, said DB Deputy Commissioner (east) Mahbub Alam.

Both of the detainees were previously arrested for the attempted murder of another blogger -- Asif Mohiuddin -- two years ago and later came out on bail, the DB official added. Kauser and Kamal are both charge-sheeted accused in Asif Mohidduin's case.

The two arrestees will be produced before a Dhaka court today with a ten-day remand plea, Mahbub added.

On August 7, secular blogger and war crimes trial campaigner Niladri Chatterjee was hacked to death by four person or persons unknown at his Goran residence in Dhaka.

Also known as Niloy Neel on blogging platforms and Facebook, the youth -- aged around 30 -- was the fourth blogger to be killed since February.

On August 13, detectives arrested two suspected Ansarullah members, Sad Al Nahian and Masud Rana, in connection with the murder of Niladri. A Dhaka court placed both of them under an eight-day remand on August 14, while they were placed under a fresh two-day remand which is set to start from today.

China-Japan-Koreas
Standoff Gives Glimpse of N.Korean Defense Plans
South Korea and the U.S. are assessing North Korea's military's strength and operational plans based on the deployment of troops and armaments during the latest cross-border tensions.

"We recently had a chance to look into part of the North Korean military's operational plans and preparedness" after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un put troops on a war footing, a military source said Wednesday. "We're now reassessing how we'd overestimated or underestimated the North Korean military."

During the latest tensions, some sections of the North Korean military showed a higher mobilization capability than expected, but its entire war capabilities are inadequate. This is why the North seemed to pay more attention to short-term blitz tactics than to long-term strategy for a full-scale war, South Korea believes.

A comprehensive assessment of the North's war capabilities has not been possible, since there were no unusual movements of some 1.02 million-strong ground troops, 4,300 tanks, and 820 fighter jets. In the case of ground troops, only those in the frontline areas near the demilitarized zone were apparently put on high alert.

The North has far greater artillery strength than South Korea, including about 8,600 guns and 5,500 multiple rocket launchers. But it did not mobilize long-range guns that threaten the Seoul metropolitan area, but only small-caliber artillery like 76.2 mm guns near the DMZ to threaten to shoot at South Korea's loudspeakers.

Prof. Kim Yeol-su of Sungshin Women's University said, "We haven't really had a chance to completely grasp the North's military strength. What we saw was just a show of strength during the cross-border talks."

In the process some 50 submarines, 70 percent of the North's fleet, vanished from the radar. If all of them left their bases rather than being hidden in underwater caves, that would have been a better sortie rate than advanced countries could manage, according to experts.

The military here is not considering changing the current South Korea-U.S. operational plans based on the available evidence.

"We confirmed that psychological warfare, including loudspeaker broadcasting, can be an asymmetric strategic weapon," the military source added. "We now can develop our own asymmetric strength without being cowed by the North's."

Pudgy Vanishes from Public View
North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim Jong-un has vanished from public view since he called an urgent meeting of the Workers Party's Central Military Commission a week ago.
Likely a false alarm but we live in hope...
Kim was pointedly absent from an event marking the 55th Songun Day on Monday, which commemorates his father Kim Jong-il's military-first doctrine.
Fred, you been praying for sepsis, right?
Also unseen since the Aug. 20 meeting were Ri Yong-gil, the chief of the Army's General Staff, and Kim Yong-chol, the director of the General Bureau of Reconnaissance, who were in the chain of command when two South Korean soldiers were maimed by box mines planted by the North.

In contrast, Hwang Pyong-so, the chief of the Army politburo, and Kim Yang-gon, the Workers Party secretary for South Korean affairs, have taken turns appearing on state media to explain the agreement reached at high-level cross-border talks.

Kim's weeklong disappearance at this crucial juncture suggests that he may be trying to avoid a public backlash. Many top officials are reportedly embarrassed by the way the mine provocation has backfired, and Kim himself is thought to be no supporter of the military-first doctrine.

The regime succeeded in putting out the fire when South Korea resumed propaganda broadcasts across the demilitarized zone, but only at the cost of an unprecedented expression of regret for the maiming of the two soldiers.

That could be seen as a loss of face for Kim, who is still struggling to establish his authority.
Yup, he can't be seen ever once as being apologetic for anything...
Some pundits expect the military leaders who ordered the planting of mines in the DMZ could be called to account and
...be stood in front of an anti-aircraft gun...
suffer a similar purge as other unruly military leaders over the last two years.

Europe
Austria Finds Up to 50 Bodies Thought to Be of Migrants in Truck
[NYTIMES] The partly decomposing bodies of as many as 50 people
...though possibly it's only twenty, or somewhere in between...
assumed to be migrants being smuggled across Europe were found in a truck abandoned on a highway east of Vienna on Thursday, the police said.

The precise toll was yet to be determined, said Hans-Peter Doskozil, director of the police in the eastern state of Burgenland, during a live news conference on Austria's public broadcaster.

He said the bodies, some of which had started to decompose, had been discovered when the truck was opened after the police noticed it parked off the highway that links Budapest and Vienna. He declined to give further details.

Mr. Doskozil said the Austrian police had contacted the authorities in neighboring Hungary, which has accelerated the building of a fence along the border with Serbia in an effort to block the flow of tens of thousands of migrants who have worked their way up the length of the Balkans in recent weeks.
It's all the rage these days. I just read that Estonia is building one on her border with Russia, though it seems to me that no fence would stop "refugees" in tanks.
Updated count from An Nahar at 4:45 a.am ET:
The bodies of more than 70 dead migrants have been recovered from an abandoned truck found on an Austrian motorway, more than the initial estimate of between 20 and 50, the Austrian government said Friday.

The number was confirmed to Agence La Belle France Presse by interior ministry front man Alexander Marakovits. The lorry was found on Thursday morning on a motorway near the borders with Slovakia and Hungary.

No further details on the identities, ages or origin of the dead was available, but Austrian police in the eastern state of Burgenland were due to give a news conference at 11:00 am (0900 GMT).

Report: NSA Gave Germany Access to Powerful Internet Surveillance Tool
BERLIN--Germany's national intelligence agency secretly traded information with the National Security Agency in return for gaining access to a powerful software surveillance program, according to a German newspaper report.

Germany's domestic spying agency, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution or Bundesverfassungsschutz,
wow
That's a train wreck of a word even in German...
agreed to share targeted surveillance data on its citizens with the NSA in April 2013, according to a report in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit.

In exchange, the German intelligence agency was given access to use U.S. software known as XKeyscore, which the NSA once described in a training manual as its "widest-reaching" Internet surveillance system.

The disclosure comes at a time when relations between the United States and Germany have come under strain over revelations of unauthorized spying.

Reports of widespread spying on German citizens disclosed by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden and the NSA's tapping of Chancellor Angela Merkel's cellphone have angered Germans and fed calls for a rethinking of the country's relationship with U.S. intelligence agencies, which have staff and sophisticated listening posts in Germany.

The relationship has taken on a political dimension, as Merkel's domestic political opponents in Germany have used the reports to portray her as too accommodating to or the unwitting tool of U.S. interests. The latest disclosure is bound to add to the drumbeat of anti-American rhetoric in the German press.

Die Zeit said it had obtained confidential documents between the German and U.S. spying agencies outlining the controversial cooperation. It is unclear whether those documents were provided by Snowden.

In a signed memorandum on the deal seen by the paper, the German intelligence agency vowed "to the maximum extent possible [to] share all data relevant to the NSA's mission." Germany's foreign intelligence agency, the Bundesnachrichtendienst, or BND, also signed on to the deal, the paper said.

The partnership appears to have been brokered with little external or political oversight, the newspaper wrote in a story published on its website.

Germany's domestic intelligence service passed confidential information along to the NSA without consulting other government agencies--a standard that circumvented parliamentary review and may have violated German law, Die Zeit reported.
Passing along confidential information to the congress or parliament is so old school. Representatives of the little people have no 'need to know.'
If members of the congress or parliament didn't leak classified information like a sieve, it wouldn't be a concern either.
"I knew nothing about such an exchange deal," Peter Schaar, who served as Germany's top data protection commissioner from 2003 to 2013, told the German paper. The data commissioner heads an independent agency with a small staff, and has little influence over executive decisionmaking.

XKeyscore, the software in question, is a spy tool that allows NSA analysts to query large databases of emails, browsing histories, online chats and webcam photos, the newspaper reported. Its existence was revealed in July 2013 by The Guardian, which published NSA documents leaked by Snowden that described the software as capable of collecting "nearly everything a typical user does on the Internet."

NSA officials have disputed that XKeyscore is capable of so broadly tracking digital content, and they have insisted that its use is appropriately restricted to lawful surveillance on foreign intelligence targets. The version provided to German officials is described as allowing them to analyze the Internet metadata of a domestic suspect under national security surveillance.

As part of the agreement, German authorities promised to "[u]tilize XKeyscore in a manner consistent with German law and in a manner reasonably likely not to result in the targeting of U.S. persons."

The deluge of spying secrets disclosed by Snowden has strained relations between the United States and Germany, a country sensitive to surveillance because of its history with the Stasi, the former East German secret police, and the Nazis, who used data to identify, sort out and murder more than 6 million Jews and others during World War II.

Recently, Merkel's government has come under pressure for appearing to be complicit in the NSA spying in Germany, a charge she and her advisers have denied.

But reports in local media this spring suggested that Germany's foreign intelligence agency had worked closely with the NSA to spy on other European nations.

Amid the allegations and denials, the German government last week charged one of its own spies with treason for allegedly sharing secrets with both the CIA and Russian intelligence officials. That came on the heels of treason charges filed and then dropped against two bloggers who published documents detailing German plans to expand surveillance of the social web.

[IsraelTimes] 'Deeply troubled' by nuclear agreement, holy mans exhort Congress to reject it.

As of Thursday early afternoon, more than 980 rabbis had signed the online letter, which says that the hope for a good deal “is not yet realized.” The petition was posted on the Care2 website earlier this month and remains open until Sept. 7, with a goal of 1,000 signatures.
As of 9:20 a.m. ET, there were 1,106 rabbinic signatures, and the goal was raised to 2,000.
In mid-August, a petition urging support for the nuclear deal with Iran signed by 340 US rabbis from the major denominations of Judaism and sponsored by Ameinu, a liberal Zionist organization, was sent to Congress.
Much like the senior military officers for and against, oddly enough.

#1  Jewish people getting some idea they voted for the wrong person in 2008 and 2012? Voters remorse? Most likely, since Congress lacks the will to oppose Obama, the U.S. will be saddled with a very, very bad Iranian deal. Iran will continue to support terrorists and issue threats of annihilation to the U.S. and Israel. They will continue their nuke program despite what the hell Obama and Kerry say; a troika of enemies of the U.S.

Marco Rubio NAILS Joe Biden on little known UBL decision
[Right Scoop] Marco Rubio was given a pretty tough question by conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt and he knocked it out of the park and planted the baseball in Biden's windshield in the parking lot.

There are not enough people who remember this but I'm glad Rubio does -- in the heat of trying to praise President Buzzfeed as much as possible, Biden actually said that he counseled him against pulling the trigged on the Bin Laden operation. And he said it was supposedly the "courage" of Obama that made him do it anyway. SO that means that if Biden was president, Osama Bin Laden would still be alive!! It's devastating critique that Rubio is smart to employ.
I believe it was a 'kill or capture' mission. Had it simply been a kill mission, a drone or missile, or some other local method would have sufficed. Were Joe's concerns centered around the obvious theatrical nature of the operation. We may never know, but I doubt it had anything to do with courage.

I'm more inclined to think it was a straight kill, or possibly kill-and-vacuum (intel).

Capturing would have meant considerable questioning and subsequent embarrassment of our Pakistani 'allies', particularly the politicians. Using local sourced wet-workers may have been difficult or impossible. Especially if the time-window was narrow.

Brahamdagh ready to give up demand for independence
[DAWN] Showing flexibility over his long-standing stance, Brahamdagh Bugti, the self-exiled leader of the separatist Baloch Republican Party (BRP), said in an interview on Wednesday that he was ready to give up his demand for an independent Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
if the Baloch so desired.

Mr Bugti, who had left for Afghanistan after his grandfather Nawab Akbar Bugti's death in a military raid to lead guerilla resistance, spoke to the BBC on the ninth death anniversary of the nationalist leader. He made it clear that a peaceful resolution of the enduring conflict would not be without conditions.

While fleeing Afghanistan, he had alleged that Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
's regime wanted to kill him after eliminating his grandfather. He won refuge in Afghanistan despite Pakistain's demand for his return and moved to Europe in 2010 along with his family.

With reports of hundreds of members of the banned holy warrior organizations having surrendered in Balochistan recently and speculations rife that the authorities are negotiating with some exiled separatist leaders who want assurances of safety in return for giving up militancy, Mr Bugti's peace offer indicates a radical change in Baloch politics.

"It is really hard to negotiate on the conflict when the bloodletting still continues. That's why our standpoint is clear: the operation (in Balochistan) be stopped and all the forces be withdrawn. Once this materialises, it could provide conducive environment for dialogue," Mr Bugti, who lives in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
, said.

Pakistan's nuclear stockpile could become world's third largest, says report
[DAWN] Pakistain could become the third largest nuclear stock pile within the next five to ten years, behind only the United States and Russia, the Washington Post reported, quoting reports published by two American think tanks.

The report published on Thursday by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Stimson Center said that Pakistain, out of its fear of India, was far outpacing its rival neighbour in the development of nuclear warheads and may be building 20 nuclear warheads annually.

The report cites analysts as saying that Pakistain possesses around 120 nuclear warheads as compared to India's 100. The report concluded by saying that Pakistain could have at least 350 nuclear weapons within five to 10 years.

PPP refutes terror-funding allegations, calls for transparent probe
[DAWN] Pakistain People's Party (PPP) on Thursday strongly refuted the impression it was involved in terror financing, saying the party had itself suffered huge losses in the fight against terrorism.

Addressing a presser on Thursday, the party's senior vice president Sherry Rehman said the PPP has always been on the front-line in the war against terror.

"How can you say that PPP is involved in terror financing?"

Presenting her party's stance after a federal anti-corruption court issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of PPP leaders Yousuf Raza Gilani
... Pakistain's former prime minister, whose occasional feats of mental gymnastics could be awe-inspiring ...
and Makhdoom Amin Fahim, and Dr Asim Hussain's 90-day remand in Rangers custody, Rehman said:

"Yousuf Raza Gilani has always presented himself before the court even when he was holding the office of prime minister."

PPP has always respected the judiciary and will not carry out action that hampers the current democratic setup in the country, she said.

Talking about the ongoing anti-corruption drive in Sindh, Rehman clarified that the "PPP has no objection whatsoever over the operation and will create no hurdle in its implementation".

But she said "it looks like politics of Dire Revenge is being carried out with the PPP as the sole target."

"We will keep alive our tradition of struggle for democracy and will face every atrocity," said the PPP vice president.

IG Looking Into Allegations that Regime Pressured Intel Analysts to Downplay ISIS
[PJ Media] From the first moments President Obama took office, he has downplayed threats from radical Islamists. He was elected based on his promise to bring the troops home. He was reelected after claiming that al -Qaeda was "decimated." Al-Qaeda was nothing of the sort. And while the United States withdrew from the Middle East, an even darker and more heinous threat filled the void.
Photo depicts President Lyndon B. Johnson examining a model of the Khe Sanh area in February 1968.
It's been known for over a year that the administration is downplaying the threat posed by ISIS.

Even as Pentagon spokesmen were painting a rosy picture of the coalition's progress, the terrorists were gaining huge swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria, leaving a horrifying path of destruction in their wake.

Now, an IG investigation is looking into whether the ISIS analysis was purposefully distorted.

According to the New York Times, "the Pentagon's inspector general is investigating allegations that military officials have skewed intelligence assessments about the United States-led campaign in Iraq against the Islamic State to provide a more optimistic account of progress...."

The investigation began after at least one civilian Defense Intelligence Agency analyst told the authorities that he had evidence that officials at United States Central Command -- the military headquarters overseeing the American bombing campaign and other efforts against the Islamic State -- were improperly reworking the conclusions of intelligence assessments prepared for policy makers, including President Obama, the government officials said.
A friend of former Defense Intelligence Agency Director, General Mike Flynn at the 'Silver Bullet' aka DIA possibly ?
Apparently -- if you believe the New York Times' spin who can you believe -- poor Obama didn't know any of this was going on. He read about it first in the newspaper and he's as outraged as anybody.
That certainly wouldn't be the Klingon Inspector General because no one has yet been appointed by the White House. A rather telling factoid I'd say.

New Hamas video boasts of reconstructed tunnels
[Ynet] A year after the military operation that destroyed must of the terror organization's attack tunnels, new propaganda video portrays a rebuilt underground infrastructure
But not a single destroyed dwelling has been rebuilt thus far, oddly enough.
Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, showcased its recovered tunnels unit in a video released on Thursday, a year after the end of Operation Protective Edge, during which the IDF destroyed a large part of the tunnel infrastructure in the Gazoo Strip.

The video released by the terror organization's military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigade, shows the tunnels unit fighters inside one of the terror tunnels, awaiting the right moment to attack IDF troops. The unit is also seen gathering intelligence and fighting in a built-up area.

Hamas is attempting to show that it has managed to rebuild the tunnels that were destroyed in last summer's operation. A recent IDF assessment said Hamas' commando unit is now better trained and equipped with the most advanced equipment.

The investment in the group's military capabilities did not stop political bureau chief Khaled Mashal from telling London-based Al-Araby al-Jadeed that the organization was in talks with Israel about a long-term ceasefire and even claimed that talks "seemed positive, but we have not reached an agreement yet."

The Prime Minister's Office, however, said earlier this week that it was not holding any talks with Hamas - direct or indirect.

New Muslim Rebel Front Calls for Revived Talks with Thailand
[AnNahar] A new umbrella group of Moslem rebels who are waging a bloody insurgency in southern Thailand called Thursday for a resumption of stalled peace talks but it was unclear whether the Thai military junta would recognize them.

Representatives of Mara Pattani, which claims to speak for six of the insurgency's leading rebel organizations, said they met Thai officials during exploratory talks in Malaysia this week.

"Our principle is to find a solution through peaceful dialogue," Awang Jabat, the group's chairman, told news hounds during a briefing on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.

"We hope we can bring the conflict to an end and promote a lasting peace."

He said Thai representatives at this week's dialogue were noncommittal, saying they had to consult with junta leaders.

But junta front man Werachon Sukhondhapatipak, in comments to AFP in Bangkok, appeared to cast doubt on a speedy resumption of peace talks.

"(The peace talks) are an issue for the security agencies. Don't give any importance to brand new organizations," he said.

A decade-long insurgency has seen near-daily bombings, shootings and occasional beheadings in three southern Thai states including Pattani.

Many people in the Moslem-majority border region have a greater cultural affinity to neighboring Malaysia, which also is predominantly Moslem.

A range of shadowy groups are fighting for a level of autonomy from Thailand, which is mostly Buddhist. More than 6,400 people have been killed, the majority of them civilians.

Rights organizations accuse Thai authorities of widespread human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
abuses including extra-judicial killings, and sweeping aside the area's distinct local culture.

Malaysia hosted several rounds of peace talks in 2013 between one Lion of Islam group and a previous Thai government.

But the dialogue made little headway and was cut off by a Thai political crisis that culminated in a May 2014 army coup.

Experts on the conflict say the peace effort has been hampered by divisions within Lion of Islam groups and doubts over whether the rebel negotiators in the previous talks -- from the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) -- truly represented fighters on the ground.

Awang Jabat, however, said Mara Pattani includes the BRN along with five other factions.

During their contacts with the Thai officials this week Mara Pattani asked for immunity for rebels over past violence as a condition for resuming talks.

That proposal, however, has previously been met coolly by the junta, which has thus far shown an unwillingness to compromise, undercutting hopes of resuming full negotiations.

The snuffies also said peace talks should be enshrined by the Thai parliament as a national objective, to avoid future negotiations being scuppered again by government changes in Bangkok.

IAEA says Iran has expanded Parchin nuclear facility
[IsraelTimes] UN agency's report says regime's activity at suspect site has undermined capacity to 'conduct effective verification'
They are in non-compliance with the previous agreement. The only possible response is to bomb the place to rubble, then bounce the rubble. Returning to the negotiating table to get a better agreement only gives them what they want -- time to develop their nuclear weapons -- whereas confirming the Obama agreement gives them exactly the same thing.
United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
' ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency reported Thursday that while Iran has largely been complying with agreements on curtailing its nuclear program, it has built an extension to its military facility at Parchin.

A segment of the confidential report seen by the Rooters news agency says the Islamic Theocratic Republic's activity at the site since February 2012 has likely undermined the IAEA's ability to "conduct effective verification."

"Since [our] previous report [in May], at a particular location at the Parchin site, the agency has continued to observe, through satellite imagery, the presence of vehicles, equipment, and probable construction materials. In addition, a small extension to an existing building appears to have [been] constructed," the report was quoted by Rooters as saying.

The report covers Iranian activity from before the signing of the long-term nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers in July.

Activities at the site since 2012, during a time Iran stonewalled IAEA requests to visit the site or receive information on it, have undermined the agency's ability to verify intelligence suggesting that Tehran conducted tests relevant to nuclear bomb detonations at the site in the past, diplomats said Thursday.

Specifically, the IAEA believes Tehran may have experimented there with high-explosive detonators for nuclear arms.

On Tuesday, IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano said that his agency received large amounts of information from Tehran but it was too early to say whether any of the information is new.

Three weeks ago, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said his country was fixing up roads near the Parchin site, dismissing Western reports based on satellite imagery that Tehran was engaged in a hurried clean-up of the facility.

"We have announced that road construction operations are being carried out at Parchin," Zarif told news hounds in Tehran, according to the semi-official Fars news agency. Claims to the contrary, he said, were "lies," he said. "All allegations against the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran in this ground have always been baseless," Zarif added.

Israel last week demanded the publication of undisclosed agreements reached between Iran and the IAEA, after a report on part of the accord detailed Iran's ability to police itself at Parchin. The News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported the nuclear watchdog ceded the responsibility of nuclear inspections at the Parchin military complex to Tehran officials, and published what it said was a text of the side deal.

#1  Wehell, technically speaking, the Bammer + SecState Jaawhn Kerry's Nuke Deal wid Iran has NOT been formally approved by the US Congress, ergo Iran technically has the right or option to expand its NucFacs or NucProgs until such time the deal is approved.

IT PUTS THE ANTI-OBAMA GOP-RIGHT + ALIGNED INA QUANDRY VEE IRAN - EITHER THE CONGRESS APPROVES A BAD OR DEFECTIVE NUCLEAR DEAL, OR WATCH IRAN EXPAND ITS NUCLEAR CAPABILITIES IN THE MEANTIME.

And until such time the Congress does approve the Deal, it is also highly unlikely the Bammer = USA will undertake any MilAction to stop Iran from de facto expanding its NucFac or NucProgs.

THE BALL, THEN, IS WID IRAN-N-ONLY-IRAN TO STOP ITS NUKE EXPANSIONISMS, NOT FOR THE BAMMER ADMIN = USA TO STOP THEM.
