Taliban planned to release prisoners in Faryab
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Talibs had planned to seize the bustling provincial capital of northern Faryab province and storm the province's jail to release prisoners.

Brigadier General Dawlat Waziri, the deputy front man for the Ministry of Defense said in a presser on Monday that Talibs launched a coordinated attack on Maimana from all directions yesterday and engaged in a heavy shootout with security forces till this morning.

He said security forces already had awareness of a possible Taliban attack and were well prepared to respond to it.

"I can say hundreds of them got killed and maimed in the shootout," Brig. Gen. Waziri added.

Brig. Gen. Waziri further said that security forces and civilians did not suffer casualties during the shootout.

But Sayed Abdul Baqi, head of Faryab's Provincial Council had earlier said that seven members of a family were killed and maimed in the clash.

Taliban released nearly 1,000 prisoners, including their partners, in two attacks on jails in Ghazni and Kundoz provinces last month.

Ghariani says Sharia as basis of legislation in Dialogue Draft 'not enough'
[Libya Herald] The Dar Al-Ifta, the fatwa organization run by Sheikh Sadik al-Ghariani, has ruled that the supposedly final version of the UN Dialogue Draft agreement cannot be accepted until it changes its stand on the Sharia.
It's never enough, is it? Until the heads are rolling.
Article 5 of the Governing principles says there is a "Commitment that Islamic law (Sharia) is the source of legislation; it shall not be permissible to issue any legislation that contradicts with it".

This was not enough, the Dar Al-Ifta said, indicating that it required Sharia to be the law rather than the source of the law.

It was responding to a letter from a group of members of the General National Congress in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
who wanted to know if the Draft and the dialogue were Islamically compliant.

The fatwa body also said that the draft had to demonstrate equality and balance between all sides in Libya, suggesting that at present it did not. It also said that the notion of "terrorism which is included in the draft" needed to be clearly explained. Additionally it said that "coup-makers should be excluded from working in military and security offices" -- seen as a reference to Khalifa Hafter and his associates.

Libyan Brotherhood chooses new leader
[Libya Herald] Libya's Moslem Brüderbund has elected a new leader. He is Ahmed Abdullah Al-Suqi, from Benghazi although his family is originally comes from Misrata. He replaces Bashir Kubti, also from Misrata, who was appointed the organization's official head during a conference in Benghazi in 2011.

The decision was made at the Brotherhood's 10th Conference in Istanbul, now the Brotherhood's international base and preferred present base for many Libyan Brotherhood members.

The media were not invited to or even made aware of the conference.

Kupti, the only publicly designated official in the otherwise secretive organization, announced the change on his Facebook page although the Brotherhood also issued a short statement about the new appointment. In it, it also said it supported the UN-brokered Libya Dialogue and wanted peace in the country.

Although Suqi has been chosen as official leader, the man widely seen as the Brotherhood's real mentor -- political, intellectual and spiritual -- is Ali Salabi. The organization also operates through its political arm, the Justice and Construction Party, led by Mohammed Sawan.

Sawan has publicly supported the Dialogue and attended the initialing of the Draft

Libya's elected parliament extends mandate, complicating peace talks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Libya's elected parliament voted on Monday to extend its mandate, due to expire on Oct. 20, in a move likely to complicate U.N. attempts to end a crisis between the country's two rival governments.

Four years after the uprising that toppled veteran ruler Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
, the oil-producing North African state is caught in conflict between its recognized government, with an elected parliament, and a rival self-declared administration. The two are backed by competing armed factions.

The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
has been negotiating a peace agreement to form a unity government. It had been pushing hard for a deal before the parliament's mandate ended on Oct. 20 to prevent the country falling deeper into chaos.

House of Representatives front man Faraj Hashem said the elected parliament had voted to extend its mandate until it could hand over power to a new elected body.

He told news hounds the parliament, known as the HOR, was still supporting the U.N.-backed negotiating process and its delegates were in meetings with the U.N. envoy in the Moroccan city of Skhirat on Monday.

"The HOR has amended the constitutional declaration to extend its mandate to avoid a vacuum in the country," politician Tarek Juroushi told Rooters.

There was no official reaction from the rival parliament, known as the GNC, and government. These have been established in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
since an armed faction called Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
took over the capital last year, driving out the recognized government which now operates in the east of the country.

But the move is likely to complicate efforts to get the Tripoli factions to agree to a national unity government and control hardliners resisting a peace accord.

"What the HOR has done sends a negative message," one GNC member told Rooters asking his name not be used because the parliament's members planned to meet to discuss their official position.

The Libyan coastguard said it had also rescued 212 migrants from two overloaded rubber dinghies off the Libyan coast.

Turkish PM calls dragged corpse pic 'unacceptable', HDP leader urges interior minister to resign
[Hurriyet Daily News] Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has "disapproved" an image tweeted of a corpse tied to the back of a security vehicle being dragged on a street in southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
where security forces are battling bandidos turbans of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), while the co-leader of the Kurdish problem-focused opposition party has called for the immediate resignation of the interior minister over the scandal.

"It is not possible for us to approve images of a terrorist organization member who was neutralized while attacking police with rocket launcher in Sirnak," Davutoglu said early Oct. 5. "Required legal and administrative instructions have been given about this incident," he said in a message posted on his official Facebook account.

As of Oct. 4, the Interior Ministry announced that it has launched an investigation into possible human rights

abuses after the image was posted earlier that day. The photograph was posted on Twitter and shared by Selahattin Demirtas, the co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).

The corpse belonged to HDP Sirnak deputy Leyla Birlik's brother-in-law, Haci Lokman Birlik, who is said to have been killed during festivities between police and members of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), the youth wing of the PKK, happening in downtown Sirnak since Oct. 1.

Demirtas, speaking to news hounds on Oct. 5, said Davutoglu's statement about the incident was not "satisfactory."

"Let me say that this is only one case that was exposed on camera. Very similar incidents are taking place there each day. Imagine what might have been done to the living by those who did this to the dead. That is not meant to say that 'All security forces are like this and doing this,' but these are pretty much the practices. It's been like this for years," Demirtas said, urging the resignation of Interior Minister Selami Altinok over the incident. He also said the Interior Ministry sent two inspectors to the region solely to "cover up" the matter.

While sharing the photograph on his account, Demirtas said, "Look at this photograph carefully. It was taken in Sirnak the previous day. Let nobody forget, because we will not forget."

The Interior Ministry statement said claims of abuse would be investigated fully. It also said Turkey was determined to press ahead with its fight against PKK bandidos turbans "within the principles of a state ruled by laws."

CHP head accuses politicians of bloodshed in country
[Hurriyet Daily News] Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu has blamed the recent violence between the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and security forces, which have led to the over 200 killings, on the previous ruling party after the June 7 elections.

"The country turned into bloodshed after 400 deputies did not come out of the June 7 elections. The people responsible for this are the people governing the country," said Kilicdaroglu during his party's rally in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak on Oct. 5, in reference to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

"It's open and clear. Wherever you go around the world, it is the politicians who are responsible for this situation," added Kilicdaroglu.

Commenting on the grinding of the peace processor, which was launched in the late 2000s by the government to find a resolution to the 30-year-long Kurdish problem, Kilicdaroglu said the government had been bogged down in the process.

's Justice and Development Party (AKP) is more likely to score below 40.6 percent, according to an international betting company.*

The Republican People's Party's (CHP) vote range is estimated between 26.6 percent and 28.9 percent.

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) is currently seen by bookmakers at 16.6 percent to 17.9 percent, while the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) is predicted to cross the 10 percent threshold easily again.

As such, a single-party government seems unlikely in the favorite scenario of bookmakers.

Russia says violation of Turkish airspace was 'navigation error'
[Hurriyet Daily News] Russia has informed The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
that the violation of Turkish airspace near the Syrian border on Oct. 3 was due to a "navigation error," according to Russian sources.

Turkish military sources said a Russian SU-30 breached Turkish airspace for hundreds of meters in the southern district of Yayladagi in Hatay province for two minutes at 12:10 p.m., but returned to Syrian airspace after one warning.

The Russian authorities informed the Turkish military attaché in Moscow about the error, Russian Embassy officials in Ankara told Hurriyet Daily News.

Suspects say offered 100,000 liras for attacking Hurriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan
[Hurriyet Daily News] Suspects in the case into the beating of Hurriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan have confessed that a former police officer offered them 100,000 Turkish Liras to attack the journalist after an Istanbul court ordered the arrest of just one suspect and the release of six others.

Retired police officer Yahya Kemal Gezer allegedly told suspects to organize the attack saying, "There is a man that needs to be beaten," Fuat Elmas, a suspect, said in testimony at the organized crime police department.

Elmas said they had received the instructions to attack Hakan during a meeting with Gezer at Ruzgar Café, which is also owned by Gezer in the Fatih district, on Sept. 23.

Elmas said he went to the café with Ugur Adiyaman, another suspect in the same case, where they were told by Gezer that "there is a man that needs to be beaten."

"Gezer said the man was journalist Ahmet Hakan. 'He [Hakan] calls deaders as dead [people]. He says his vote is for the [People's Democratic Party] HDP. He is instigating the people; he is encouraging people to vote for the HDP. He has to be taken out. The instructions will be given tonight. The [National Intelligence Organization] MIT is also involved. The police and the chief are also involved,' said Gezer. He said we would be paid within a few days of completing the job," Elmas reportedly told the police.

Kamuran Ergin, one of the seven suspects, said in his testimony that 100,000 liras were offered to them to stage the assault.

Promise of appointment as district head of the 'Ottoman Hearths'

"On the eve of the Eid holiday, Adiyaman came to my house along with Fuat Elmas. Ahmet Senguler and two of my friends, Soner and Dehset, also came to my house. Ugur told us that a man who identified himself as a police chief took him and Fuat to an abandoned house and told them that they had to beat a man named Ahmet Hakan and that they would be paid 100,000 liras in total and a man named Nezir would make arrangements for me to be appointed as the district head of the Ottoman Hearths group. Fuat and Ahmet accepted the offer. Soner and Dehset did not accept it. I was under the effect of drugs and alcohol. I accepted because I needed money and we would only beat him," said Ergin.

Six suspects were released and just one was locked away
You have the right to remain silent...
on Oct. 4 in the case, despite a public prosecutor's efforts to arrest all seven suspects.

The court arrested Senguler for "willful injury," while releasing Ergin, Adiyaman and Elmas on probation until the trial is concluded.

The other suspects were released unconditionally.

Four men who attacked Hakan in Istanbul's Nisantasi neighborhood were detained early Oct. 1, the day of the incident. Their interrogation at police headquarters continued for four days, after which all suspects were sent to court at 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 4.

Turkish PM: Military to react if Russia violates Turkish border again
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has warned that it will react if Russia again violates Turkey's border with Syria after Russian aircraft breached Turkish airspace over the weekend, with Moscow saying the incident was not intentional but due to a "navigational error."

"Let me put it bluntly: Turkey's rules of engagement are valid for Syria's, Russia's or another country's warplanes. The Turkish Armed Forces have been issued with open instructions. Even if it's a flying bird, whoever violates Turkish airspace will be subject to the necessary actions," Davutoglu told Haberturk TV in an interview on Oct. 5, stressing that Russia must not escalate tension in Syria.

A Russian fighter aircraft violated Turkish airspace on Oct. 3 in the southern district of Yayladagi in Hatay province and was intercepted by Turkish jets, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

"The Russian aircraft exited Turkish airspace into Syria after it was intercepted by two F-16s from the Turkish Air Force, which were conducting patrols in the region," a written statement by the ministry said Oct. 5.

Turkey expects influx of 1 mln Syrian refugees after Russian airstrikes
[Hurriyet Daily News] In Ankara, Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus has suggested that Russia's military intervention in Syria, which has shifted balance of power in heavily populated regions, will eventually lead to a mass influx of up to 1 million Syrians into The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
.

"The west of Syria is the place with the highest population; Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Latakia. There is a balance there at the moment, a multilateral civil war. Each additional intervention there, particularly this intervention by Russia and its bombing of locations of moderate dissidents will give too much strength to the regime. In such a case, the regime will gradually increase its ongoing oppression and attacks," Kurtulmus said in remarks to Hurriyet on Oct. 5.

"In this case, God forbid, new changes of balance in these cities with crowded populations will lead to an influx of hundreds of thousands, perhaps an influx of over 1 million into Turkey," he said.

Turkey warns Russia over airspace violation
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
said on Monday it had summoned Russia's ambassador to protest the violation of its airspace by one of its warplanes and was told it was a "mistake" that would not happen again.

Turkey, which has the second-largest army in NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
, scrambled two F-16 jets on Saturday after a Russian warplane crossed into its airspace near the province of Hatay, which borders Syria, the foreign ministry said.

In a second incident, the Turkish military said a MiG-29 fighter jet -- an aircraft used by both Russia and Syria -- had harassed two of its F-16s by locking its radar on to them on Sunday as they patrolled the border.

Speaking in a live interview on HaberTurk TV, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu accused Moscow of escalating the Syrian crisis by entering the conflict.

India-Pakistan
US supports fight 'from Waziristan to Karachi'
[DAWN] The United States has assured Pakistain that it will continue to support the government's efforts to defeat militancy from North Wazoo to Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
.

In a policy statement, read out at a convention convened by the Pakistain Embassy, US Deputy Special Representative Jonathan Carpenter also reiterated Washington's offer of "tangible material" support to democracy in the country.

Pakistain's Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani opened the convention, informing the participants that US-Pakistain relations were "much stable" now and the two countries were looking for new avenues to further this relationship.

But Mr Carpenter, whose office looks after US ties with Pakistain and Afghanistan, gave a candid review of this relationship and how he saw it unfolding in the near future.

"The government of Pakistain, across all its agencies civil, military, intelligence, is engaged in a full-throttle battle against extremism within its borders," he said, while pointing to the sacrifices that the Pak armed forces had made in North Waziristan.

"The continuing fight there, the efforts in Karachi and elsewhere to weed out militarism, is fundamental to Pakistain's survival. We will continue to support that with our assistance where we can, and we will continue to encourage Pakistain to act against all murderous Moslem elements within its borders,' he said.

#2  If the USA turns off the faucets then we will fly apart and then you will be sorry.

I hate grifters.

Terrorist militancy within Pakistan is a creation of the ISI. While claiming to fight it at home Pakistan is funding it in neighboring Afghanistan and Kashmir.

activist and former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Asma Jahangir.

The petition requests the apex court to declare the LHC decision null and void as the verdict handed out on September 7, 2015 is unjust and given without hearing the counsels of the other party.

It further says that the ban imposed on Altaf Hussain's images and speeches is against freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistain.

Criticising blasphemy law does not amount to blasphemy: Justice Khosa
[DAWN] Justice Asif Saeed Khosa of the Supreme Court of Pakistain said on Monday that criticism of the blasphemy law did not amount to blasphemy.

The judge gave the remarks while hearing the appeal by Mumtaz Qadri -- the killer of former Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

governor Salman Taseer -- against his death penalty.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa adjourned the hearing till tomorrow when Qadri's counsel Justice retired Nazir Akhter is expected to continue his arguments.

During today's hearing the bench observed that the entire argument of Qadri's counsel would be rendered irrelevant if it is not established that then governor Taseer had committed blasphemy.

Justice Khosa in his remarks said that criticising a law does not amount to blasphemy and the press clippings presented in court do not provide sufficient evidence to maintain that the former governor had committed blasphemy.

Qadri, a former commando of Punjab police's Elite Force, was sentenced to death for assassinating former Punjab governor Salman Taseer in Islamabad's Kohsar Market. Qadri said he killed Taseer over the politician's vocal opposition to blasphemy laws of the country.

He had confessed to shooting Taseer dead outside an upmarket coffee shop close to the latter's residence in Islamabad on Jan 4.

Following the sentencing, Qadri's counsels had challenged the ATC's decision through two applications the same month.

The first petition had demanded that Qadri's death sentence should be quashed and the second asked for Section 7 of the ATA to be declared void from the sentencing.

In its ruling on the appeal, the IHC rejected Qadri's application against his death sentence under the PPC but accepted his application to void ATA's Section 7.

Qadri's counsels the challenged IHC's decision to uphold his death penalty in the Supreme Court.

Iraq
Iraq militia boss: US not serious about fighting Daesh
A top leader of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation paramilitary organisation said on Monday that Baghdad had turned to Russia because the US-led coalition was not serious about fighting the Daesh group.

"To this day, we have not seen a really serious effort to fight Daesh," Hadi Al Ameri said in the holy city of Najaf.

"There are some who try to contain Daesh but not really eliminate them and prevent those fighters from returning to Europe, which is where they came from," he said.
Can't argue with the man: when you're right, you're right...
Ameri is a key MP of the Badr movement, a Tehran-backed Shia party which also has a powerful military wing. He was speaking at a conference organised by Badr's TV channel Al Ghadeer.
So he has an ulterior motive. So does everyone else in Iraq...
"This lack of seriousness of the international coalition made us change tack. Russia is moving in a very serious way against Daesh," he said.

Russia's airforce began air strikes in Syria last week. Moscow says it has been targeting Daesh but Washington and its allies say Russia does not distinguish between Daesh and other groups and correctly accuses the Kremlin of being focused on protecting Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and his regime.
You have to have fallen off the turnip truck late last night to miss what Russia is doing in Syria...
Iraq announced last week it had agreed to set up a cell in Baghdad aimed at increasing intelligence cooperation with Russia, Syria and Iran in the fight against Daesh. The government in Baghdad has since said it might consider allowing Russia to bomb Daesh targets in Iraq as well.
It's the 'strong horse' argument again...
Ameri said Daesh's ability to recruit internationally was unprecedented in the history of terrorism.

"They are currently recruiting fighters from 108 countries in the world and all of them are going through Turkey, with the coalition's knowledge," he said.

"We told America" 'if you are serious about fighting Daesh, you have to stop those arrivals, which are wreaking carnage and destruction on Syria and Iraq'," he said.

The US-led coalition - which also includes France and Britain - has carried out more than 7,000 strikes on Iraq and Syria since August 2014.
That's fewer than 20 a day...
Those have helped Iraqi forces roll back some of the territorial gains Daesh made last year but the militant group has proved resilient and the security forces slow to reform.
They're slow to return because–among other reasons–they have no expectation of support, and virtually no air cover.
Ameri and other Iraqi politicians have criticised the West's commitment as conditional and arms deliveries as too slow.

Israel accuses Hamas of settler deaths
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israeli security forces said Monday they had captured five alleged Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, fighters who carried out last week's killing of a Jewish settler couple in front of their young children.

The suspected attackers were enjugged
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
the day after Thursday's West Bank shooting, a joint police, army and Shin Bet statement said, adding that "the squad belonged to the Hamas movement in Nablus."

It said that an unspecified number of accomplices were also rounded up.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated the security forces on their work and said Israel was using an "iron fist" to crush a rising wave of Paleostinian unrest.

"We are not prepared to give immunity to anybody, not to any rioter... or any terrorist, anywhere, and therefore there are no limits on the activities of the security forces," he said in a televised address, as he prepared to convene his security cabinet in special session.

Netanyahu is under pressure from right-wingers in his government coalition after four Israelis were killed in as many days and several others maimed, among them a two-year-old child.

Monday's statement, in Hebrew, said that the suspects had confessed to shooting dead Rabbi Eitam Henkin and his wife Naam in their car as their four children sat in the back.

"The detainees were taken to the Shin Bet for questioning and confessed to involvement in the attack in which the Henkins were murdered," it said.

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) bully boyz as it condemned Russian violation of Turkish airspace earlier this year.

A statement said the incursions into Turkish airspace were an "extreme danger" and demanded that Moscow halt all attacks against the Syrian opposition and civilians.

"Allies strongly protest these violations of Turkish sovereign airspace and condemn these incursions into and violations of NATO airspace. Allies also note the extreme danger of such irresponsible behavior," NATO said in a statement

"Allies also note the extreme danger of such irresponsible behavior. They call on the Russian Federation to cease and desist, and immediately explain these violations."
