US deploys 90 Special Operations troops in Helmand province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Amid deteriorating security situation in the restive Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province of Afghanistan which led to the fall of Musa Qala district last week, the American military has deployed around 90 Special Operations troops in this province, apparently to assist the Afghan cops.

The American military officials have confirmed that the special operations troops were rushed into Camp Bastion after the fall of Musa Qala on Wednesday.

The officials further added that the troops were part of the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
and American-led coalition's noncombat, "train, advise and assist" mission.

The Afghan military officials have also confirmed that the Afghan cops receive air support from the coalition forces besides the Afghan Air Force conduct aerial bombing.

The deployment of the US special operations troops belonging to United States Air Force Special Tactics Squadron in Helmand province comes as the US and NATO forces formally concluded their combat operation last year.

Col. Brian Tribus an American military front man told the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
"It is important to note whenever the U.S. conducts Arclight airstrikes, a U.S. JTAC must be on the ground directing the strike to ensure they are conducted within our rules of engagement."

A JTAC is a joint terminal attack controller, a soldier who guides Arclight airstrikes from the ground.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan (MoD) confirmed that the control of Musa Qala district was retaken by the Afghan cops.

MoD released a statement earlier today confirming the district was retaken by Afghan forces in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Afghan Forces Retake Key District Center from Taliban

air attacks Sunday drove the Taliban out of a district center in southern Afghanistan, days after the Death Eaters overran it, officials said.

province was captured by the Death Eaters on Wednesday, after a week of festivities in which the Taliban claimed to have killed or captured dozens of Afghan forces.

Reinforcements were brought in from neighboring Kandahar province.

And early Sunday police and troops broke through the Taliban defenses in Musa Qala after NATO Arclight airstrikes pounded their trenches in and around the district center, officials said.

"Security forces including army and commando units conducted a successful offensive this morning. They recaptured the district and killed 220 enemy fighters," defense ministry front man Dawlat Waziri told AFP, insisting that government forces did not suffer any casualties.

Operations were continuing to push the remnants of the Taliban out of the rest of Musa Qala district, Waziri said.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the reports.

Helmand is Afghanistan's main opium-growing area and a stronghold of the Taliban, whose government was toppled in 2001 for harboring Al-Qaeda leaders after the September 11 attacks on the United States.

Nigeria Arrests Boko Haram Commander Linked with Suicide Attacks

suspects, including a key commander, linked with several suicide kabooms across the country.

The Department of State Services (DSS) said in a statement that Usman Shuiabu known as Money and other frontline members of the Lion of Islam group were picked up in Lagos, Kano, Plateau, Enugu and Gombe states between July and August.

"Of particular note was the arrest on 8th July, 2015 in Gombe state of those responsible for the coordination and execution of the suicide attacks in Potiskum, Kano, Zaria and Jos," it said.

"Shuaibu admitted being the leader of the team of nine sect members that was dispatched from Sambisa Forest to carry out the attacks. He disclosed that four out of the nine of them were used as jacket wallahs in executing all the suicide attacks," it said.

It said the arrest of Shuaibu and other core members of his cell had stemmed the spate of bombings by the Lion of Islam sect.

The DSS said its operatives had also frustrated plans by the Lions of Islam to attack the financial capital of Lagos.

"The sudden influx of Boko Haram members into Lagos state points to the determination of the sect to extend its nefarious terrorist activities to the state and in fact, other parts of the country," it said.

"The arrest of these confessed terrorist elements has however helped in no small measure to avert devastating attacks in the area," it added.

The DSS said it would continue to work with other stakeholders in the fight against Boko Haram Lion of Islams.

The agency said on Friday it had arrested a 14-year-old boy spying for Boko Haram at the Abuja airport.

Gunmen Kill Senior Security Officer in Yemen's Aden
[AnNahar] Gunmen on a cycle of violence Sunday rubbed out the director of security operations in war-strewn Yemen's second city Aden, police said.

Colonel Abdelhakim al-Sanidi was killed as he was leaving his home in the coastal city's Mansura district, police officials said. The attackers fled after the shooting.

Yemeni authorities have long blamed the country's branch of al-Qaeda for such attacks on members of the security forces.

But security has remained fragile in the port city, where al-Qaeda suspects were accused last week of blowing up a building used by the secret police.

They also set up checkpoints in a district of the southern city and seized five buildings including an intelligence services facility, officials said.

Also last week, a rocket attack on the governor's temporary headquarters in Aden killed four people and maimed 10 others.

One child was killed and one other civilian maimed after an bomb exploded as soldiers passed by.

Two coppers were rubbed out by gunnies in the center of the historic provincial capital Diyarbakir while a third was killed in Silopi in the neighboring Sirnak province.

The source blamed the attack on Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels who have been staging daily attacks against Turkish armed forces as the military keeps up air raids and operations against its strongholds in southeast Turkey as well as northern Iraq.

Three young Kurds from the youth wing of the PKK were meanwhile killed by security forces in Silopi, according to local officials.

A 12-year-old boy was killed by a landmine planted by the PKK, local officials said, in the Silvan district of Diyarbakir province.

Some 60 members of the Turkish security forces have been killed over the past five weeks as the PKK has hit back at a relentless government air and ground campaign, in the most significant losses sustained by the military and police in recent years.

Early in April ISIS launched English-language radio news bulletins on Al-Bayan. Al-Bayan's reporting on the group's military operations and propaganda has been referenced by the News Agency that Dare Not be Named and the Washington Post.

The group also publishes a monthly online English-language magazine called Dabiq, with religious lessons, plus news about its activities. The magazine is concerned with establishing the religious legitimacy of the terror group and its self-proclaimed caliphate.

Anti-ISIS protests in Rutba stem from blood feud
[RUDAW.NET] Local and international media are reporting that an anti-ISIS protest began Saturday in the Anbar province city of Rutba, along the Baghdad-Amman highway, after ISIS killed a local civil servant.

Bassem Eid Ammash, a front man for the Anbar provincial council, told Rudaw Sunday that after a funeral for a man killed by ISIS for allegedly killing one of the myrmidons, mourners leaving the event began protesting against ISIS.

ISIS shot back at the protesters, he said, and 200 people were locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
. The AP reported that only 70 were arrested, but otherwise confirmed Ammash's comments. The AP also reported that the man being buried at the funeral was Munir al-Kobeisi, a civil servant, and that he was killed for killing an ISIS fighter in part of an ongoing tribal blood feud.

The US and its allies have struggled to train and organize anti-ISIS resistance in the majority-Sunni Arab Anbar province. Attempts by Shiite-led central government troops and militias to regain territory in the ISIS stronghold have also produced few tangible results, with many fearing aggression by Shiite troops in the region would only drive ideological rifts and push locals to support ISIS.

"The Peshmerga are launching an important operation in eastern Khurmatu in the north of Iraq," said Maj. Gen. Kevin Kiley, head of the US Army Medical Command. "Together with warplanes, the Peshmerga managed to reclaim hundreds of kilometers of lands from the Islamic State."

Coalition warplanes carried out 12 strategic Arclight airstrikes, dealing a major blow to the group's facilities in areas of southern Kirkuk.

In a bid to drive out ISIS from Iraq, the collation forces have intensified Arclight airstrikes against the Lion of Islams' military convoys, armored vehicles, heavy weapons and bases.

bully boy group has detained 230 Iraqis over the last two days for organizing anti-Daesh protests in Iraq's western Anbar province, a provincial official said Sunday.

"Thirty people were detained by the terrorist group on Sunday in the western town of Al-Rutba following raids on their homes," Emad al-Duleimi, a local official, told Anadolu Agency.

He said the latest spate of detentions had brought the total number of people detained since Saturday for organizing anti-Daesh demonstrations to 230.

A U.S.-led anti-Daesh coalition, he added, "has not acted to save those being held by the bully boy group from a possible massacre".

"Local residents want to rise up against Daesh, but they don't have the resources -- especially weapons -- to fight the terrorists," he said.

W. Bank drive-by shooting wounds one in suspected terror attack
[Ynet] Driver flees scene; incident occurs only half a day after another car attack on a soldier, as West Bank attacks continue to mount.

An Israeli was shot on Sunday while driving from inside a passing vehicle bearing an Israeli license plate at Jit Junction in the West Bank. The driver suffered light wounds to his arm. The shooter or shooters expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council and a close friend and neighbor of the victim, Ronen Edri, spoke to him and said: "There needs to be a policy change, the state cannot keep restraining the IDF in protecting its citizens, and that is the current reality here. In the past there was a checkpoint in the exact location of today's attack, but the checkpoint was removed in an effort to 'not hinder the day-to-day life of the Arabs.' If the checkpoint was there today the attack would have been avoided."

Shortly after midnight the night before, IDF troops shot up a Paleostinian vehicle that allegedly tried to run over soldiers at Ari Junction south of Hebron. One soldier was lightly maimed in the foot. He was treated at the scene. The car was damaged by the troops' firing, but managed to drive away.

This summer has seen an escalation of violence in the West Bank, with an increase in the number of violent attacks -- particularly against security forces. Early August saw a vehicular attack on IDF troops in the Binyamin area.

Three soldiers were maimed in an August 6 incident on Route 60 near the town of Sinjil when they were stuck by a car with an Israeli license plate. Two were critically maimed and one was lightly maimed. The vehicle flipped over and the road was closed by security forces. The driver was shot by troops.

Report: Hezbollah enlisting West Bank youth to carry out terror attacks against Israel
[Jpost] Saudi daily quotes Paleostinian security source as saying PA concerned by Hezbollah attempts to make inroads with Paleostinian youth.

Hezbollah has been working intensively to enlist former operatives from Fatah's armed wing, the Al Aksa Brigades, in order to carry out terror attacks against Israeli targets in the West Bank and inside Israel, a Paleostinian security source was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Saudi daily Okaz quoted the source as saying that "among those Hezbollah members involved in the operation is Kayis Ubayid, who was behind the kidnapping of Col. (res.) Elahanan Tenebaum in 2000." Tenenbaum was released to Israel from Hezbollah captivity as part of a prisoner exchange in 2004.

The source added that Paleostinian security forces believe that recent shootings and the use of bombs such as that thrown at an IDF position near Beit Jala, south of Jerusalem, earlier this month, are part of the Lebanese Shi'ite group's efforts.

The Paleostinian source claimed that Israel is well-aware of the Hezbollah activities. He added that some of those Paleostinian operatives approached by Hezbollah reported the Shi'ite group's efforts to Paleostinian Authority officials. "We estimate that there are a number of youths who were drawn into joining Hezbollah's ranks and are now operating in the West Bank, because of economic hardship or the deterioration in the security situation," the source said.

"We don't know how many people there are, but there is no doubt that the phenomenon is gaining momentum among former Al Aksa Brigade youths that have been approached by Hezbollah to work in exchange for economic support. The matter is a personal choice of these youth, who have chosen to take action against Israeli targets."

The Paleostinian security source expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
that, for the first time, their was a willingness among Paleostinian youth to join Hezbollah. "These attempts have not gone unnoticed by us in recent years, but in recent months we feel that the phenomenon has grown, with interest expressed by the youths," he said. "The number of youths involved can be counted on two hands, but nonetheless this is a dangerous development, which if it manages to carry out just one terror attack - it will change the situation completely. We fear that the issue will become a phenomenon, with more and more youths being seduced into getting money from Hezbollah. When they number in the dozens, handling them will become much more complicated."

The source said that the matter was a security challenge for the Paleostinian Authority, which is also currently acting against Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,'s efforts to revive its military wing, the Kassam Brigades, in the West Bank.

The source said that in the mid-2000s, Hezbollah had tried to enlist West Bank youth, offering salaries which reached tens-of-thousands of dollars per month. "In the years 2004-2005, the Al Aksa Brigades grabbed credit for terror attacks which were all funded by Hezbollah, whose main enlister was Kayis Ubayid.

This would not mark the first time that Paleostinian security forces have warned of Hezbollah attempts to enlist fighters in the West Bank. The move could potentially be tied to Hezbollah's patron - Iran.

In January, Iranian Defense Minister Hussein Dehghan warned that Israel "will not escape Dire Revenge" for its alleged liquidation of Iranian Revolutionary Guards' General Muhammad Allah-Dadi and of Jihad Mughniyeh in an air strike in the Syrian Golan Heights attributed in foreign reports to the IAF.

Dehghan said at the time that Iran would continue to arm the West Bank and Hezbollah. "Tehran will continue to strengthen the axis of resistance in order to deal with the Zionist entity."

#1  Our president's solution? Give Hezbollah more money to spread around. That's surely a good idea. Only a traitor could oppose it.

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group has destroyed part of an ancient temple in Syria's UNESCO-listed Palmyra city, a monitoring group said on Sunday, only a week after another temple nearby was reduced to rubble by the Death Eaters.

The snuffies targeted the Temple of Bel, a Roman-era structure in the central desert city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said according to Rooters.

The extent of the damage was not known, the Observatory said, citing its contacts on the ground.

Last week, ISIS snuffies blew up the ancient temple of Baal Shamin at the famous site. Satellite photos appeared to show it had been completely destroyed.

Over the past several months, ISIS have blown up and defaced historical sites and artifacts across their sprawling self-proclaimed "caliphate" stretching across Iraq and Syria.

in Iraq and Levant), has executed more than 90 people, a third of them civilians, over the past month in areas of war-torn Syria under its control, a monitoring group said Sunday.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 32 civilians were among 91 people executed for "crimes" in the Takfiri group's self-proclaimed "caliphate" between July 29 and August 29.

The toll included ISIL members, rival bandidos forces of Evil and government forces.

According to the Britannia-based Observatory, the latest monthly toll has brought to 3,156 people the number of ISIL executions in Syria since the "caliphate" was announced in June 2014.

The number includes 1,841 civilians.

ISIL has become notorious for its gruesome displays of violence, often shown in videos posted on the Internet, including beheadings, stoning and pushing victims off rooftops.

Further west, in Aleppo province, ISIL has been fiercely attacking rival hard boy groups, including Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front.

targets in Iraq and seven in Syria since early Saturday, the Combined Joint Task Force said in a statement on Sunday.
Totalling 22 all together. In case you wondered, dear Reader.
In Iraq, targets successfully struck included two boats and two IED caches near Al Baghdadi; a tactical unit, three vehicles and a building near Bayji; and a tactical unit and armored vehicle near Tuz.

In Syria, Arclight airstrikes destroyed tactical units, bunkers, an air defense artillery system, a mortar system and a rocket launcher near Al Hasakah, artillery and an excavator near Al Hawl and a staging area near Washiyah.
But no training camps. I guess that's being left for the next resident of the White House.
