[EDSONLEADER] An Australian animal rescuer saved a koala by giving it CPR after it was hit by a car Thursday evening.
The koala, known as Sir Chompsalot, is expected to survive, Wildlife Victoria volunteers say.
The koala was hit by a car Thursday at 6 p.m. Fire crews had to first get the koala out of a tree before a volunteer with the Animalia Wildlife Shelter was able to do CPR. Firefighters also provided the koala with oxygen.
"Good boy, come on, you get angry," volunteer Michelle Thomas is heard telling the koala after it growled when it was resuscitated. "Yes, you tell us off."
The animal was then moved to an animal hospital where it is receiving additional care.

[Iran Press TV] The Ebola virus continues to claim lives, with the corpse count in West Africa reaching 1,427, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.
The latest data released on Friday by the UN health agency showed over 2,600 known cases in West Africa.
However, there's more than one way to skin a cat... the WHO warned that the scale of the world's worst Ebola outbreak has been concealed by families hiding infected loved ones in their homes and the existence of "shadow zones" that medics cannot enter.
The worst-affected country is Liberia with 624 deaths, while 406 have bit the dust in Guinea.
The deadly disease has also killed 392 in Sierra Leone and five in Nigeria.
Many African countries have restricted air, land and sea travel to the Ebola-hit countries, causing a significant impact on the economy and on food security.
Experts do not expect the epidemic to be brought under control this year.
In more positive news, two US humanitarian workers infected with the virus while working in Liberia have been released from an Atlanta hospital.
They received an experimental drug treatment that has yet to go through full clinical and human trials.
Ebola is a form of hemorrhagic fever whose symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding.

[THEJOURNAL.IE] HIGH IN THE hills of Myanmar's war-torn borderlands, a clutch of new leprosy cases among communities virtually cut off from medical help is a sign that the country's battle with the ancient disease is far from over.
It took six days by plane, boat, cycle of violence, bus — and an arduous mountain trek — for a group of medical workers to treat two leprosy patients in a remote corner of the country, where conflict and neglect are the legacy of decades of military rule and even access to basic medicines is a distant dream.
But the charity-funded medics were also on the lookout for evidence that the disease had spread.
They soon found three more leprosy sufferers, including one man who had such a severe case he required hospital care.
"I promised him that I would come back for him or I would send someone to pick him up," said Doctor Saw Hsar Mu Lar, after the May expedition, as he returned to his hospital in Mawlamyaing, Mon state — one of only two specialising in leprosy in Myanmar.
Weeks later the patient was still waiting to travel as tensions between the Myanmar army and local rebels closed transportation routes.

I saw a posting on the news feed from a Threeper group I follow, which teased about the Eastern Seaboard journalist who found a pair of earplugs and pondered if they weren't rubber bullets. We can all laugh at this one, but here is something not very funny at all: I would bet that easily 98 percent of conservative writers in Washington, DC who say they support the 2nd Amendment, don't own, nor know how to operate a firearm. The reason is that they, unlike our Founders, don't want to risk their lives, their fortunes or their sacred honor being a gun criminal. These are s'posed to be our champions and they don't even have the courage of their putative convictions.
A few days ago I posted in the O-club this photo from southeastern Ukraina about home gunsmithing. The rifle is an (I think) AK74, but may be an RPK-74 automatic rifle. The stock is homemade, and the gunman has three 40 round magazines taped together with electrical tape and a bipod (which is why I think it is actually an RPK-74).

[ARABNEWS] At least 25 people died when a gold mine collapsed near the Central African Republic town of Bambari, a front man for the mainly MoslemSeleka ...a 'mainly' Moslem rebel force in the Central African Republic that overthrew the govt, imposed a regime of rapine and looting on the country's non-Moslem population, and was then tossed by France. They still exist, getting funding and weapons from somewhere or other, licking their wounds, complaining about the oppression of Moslems, and occasionally raping and looting someone... rebels which run the mine said on Friday.
The mine at Ndassima is carved deep into a forested hilltop about 60 kilometers north of Seleka's military headquarters in Bambari. It is owned by Canada's Axmin but was overrun by rebels more than a year ago and now forms part of an illicit economy driving sectarian conflict in the country.
At least 27 artisanal miners were buried in the collapse of the mine on Thursday and 25 bodies have been retrieved, Ahmat Negat, the rebel group's front man, said.
The mine collapse is the latest setback for the country, which has been beset by sectarian violence between the Seleka rebels and Christian militia for over a year. Interim President Catherine Samba Panza on Friday stepped up plans to form a new government in a bid to help stabilize the mineral-rich country. A bigwig at the Ministry of Mines confirmed the mine collapse and casualties. He said the mine did not follow regulations and miners were working in dangerous conditions.
"Nobody from our service is on the ground to regulate the miners so they dig without any rules. Lower than three meters it gets dangerous and with rain there can be collapses," the official, Georges Yacinth-Oubaouba, told Rooters.
At Ndassima, laborers toil under the gaze of Seleka gunnies to produce some 15 kilos of gold a month. This is worth roughly $350,000 on the local market, or double that in international trade.
Axmin suspended activity at the mine in late 2012 after rebels occupied its camp. The firm has said since then that it was monitoring the situation at the mine.
The Seleka, a coalition of mostly Moslem rebels and some fighters from neighboring Chad and Sudan, seized power in March 2013, triggering sectarian violence with Christian militia.

[Iran Press TV] London has been hit by transport chaos as the city's busiest underground train line comes to a halt when drivers from one union stage a walkout, Press TV reports.
The union members of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) staged the strike at 2300 GMT on Friday for 24 hours, causing suspension of some parts of the line and severe delays.
"One hundred percent of our members are on strike today, because they have had enough of the way they are being treated by management on the central line. Unfortunately, the line management seems to have a culture of breaking agreements and are unable to treat the staff with decency and respect," Finn Brennan of the ASLEF told a Press TV correspondent.
"They seem to believe that the only way to mange people is to use a big stick. That's not how you get the best out of people."
The central line has called the strike unnecessary. But the ASLEF says its members are facing disciplinary action for being just 33 seconds late in leaving a train station, or being treated badly when sick.
"I've dealt with a number of cases were people who should have been supported by the their manager at very difficult time in their lives; instead of supporting them, they are actually bulling and intimidating them and making them feel that way. I've personally dealt with drivers who were in tears after the way they had been spoken to by management and I think� lots of people are going to be really glad that the trade union is standing up and saying that sort of behavior is not acceptable in the workplace," Brennan added.

Individual computerized rationing enables the government to monitor the subjects, to ensure that the subjects can't build up emergency food reserves, and thus to mete out carefully dosed reward and punishment on an individual level.
Don't show up for a demonstration, don't sign a regime sponsored political statement and you (and perhaps your children and elderly parents) will go hungry for a week.
Denounce your neighbor and you will eat a little more for a couple of days.

[ARABNEWS] Kiev accused Moscow of invading as Russia unilaterally drove a mammoth aid convoy across war-torn east Ukraine on Friday and warned against any attacks on the trucks.
The European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... said it "deplored" Russia's decision to order in the convoy without consent and called on Moscow to withdraw the trucks.
Scores of white lorries snaked across rebel-held territory after Moscow abruptly called time a week of haggling with Kiev, despite Red Thingy officials refusing to provide an escort because of security concerns.
"This is a direct invasion," the head of Ukraine's security service, Valentyn Nalyvaychenko, was quoted by news agencies as saying.
But he said Ukraine will not order air strikes on the trucks.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry however claimed that separatist fighters were shelling the convoy's possible route to the rebel bastion of Lugansk some 63 kilometers away and could be planning a "provocation."
Ukraine and Russia both said the other side was responsible for the convoy's security, and Russia's Foreign Ministry warned "against any attempts to disrupt a totally humanitarian mission."

[Iran Press TV] A Russian humanitarian aid convoy has been enthusiastically welcomed by residents of the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk.
Reports say the people in Luhansk rushed to meet the aid convoy after it reached the city on Friday.
The trucks were sent to warehouses, equipped with refrigerators prepared by self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) authorities during the week.
According to the administration of the LPR, 24 aid distribution centers have been set up in the city, 12 of which are to open on Saturday morning.
The speaker of the parliament of the Union of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Oleg Tsaryov said that local authorities have already compiled a list of people who were in most need of aid.
"Pensioners, families where both parents work in public sector, refugees who suffered from bombardments, invalids and hospital patients will be the first to receive the relief aid," he said.
The humanitarian aid convoy, includes a total of 70 trucks loaded with food, water, generators and sleeping bags.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said the entry of the Russian convoy represented a "flagrant violation of international law."

[DAWN] SWABI: Three bodies were found in different parts of the district here on Thursday, police said.
Two bodies were found in maize fields near Safdar Chowk in the jurisdiction of Topi cop shoppe. The local farmers informed the police about the bodies who later placed them at civil hospital, Topi, for identification.
A police official told Dawn that the victims belonged to Badbher, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
"The relatives of the dear departed have reached the hospital to get the bodies," said another official. He said the bodies were identified as that of Shah Faisal and his mother.
In the second incident at Serai village, body of one Yasir Khan was recovered from the fields. According to police, the boy went out of the home and did not return. They said that the family was informed in the morning by the local people about his killing. Yasir's parents said that they had no enmity with anyone. The police registered an FIR against unidentified killers and have started investigation.
Meanwhile, ...back at the mall, Clarissa spent the day shopping for new underwear. Tonight was going to be a special occasion... a man was killed in Kotha village when two parties exchanged heavy fire. The cause of the incident was stated to be an old enmity. However, some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them... the name of the dear departed could not be immediately known.
