Boy, 12, assigned for attack on a stadium arrested by Afghan forces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan cops foiled a suicide kaboom plot by the anti-government armed Death Eater groups on a stadium in Badghis province.

The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS), said the terrorist groups had appointed a 12-year-old boy for the attack on the stadium in Qala-e-Naw city.

Afghan troops press offensive against ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] When Afghan troops pushed into Kot, a district close to the border with Pakistain, this week, they found many of the houses empty, with posters plastered on the walls and black flags left by departing ISIS fighters.

Backed by US special forces troops and Arclight airstrikes that authorities say have killed hundreds of ISIS fighters in recent weeks, the Afghan army has launched an offensive against the movement, which is now believed to be confined to three or four districts in eastern Afghanistan.

Afghan commanders said they faced little resistance as they pushed into Kot after a heavy air and artillery bombardment as fighters pulled out into nearby mountain areas.

IS claims suicide bombing in Benghazi
A foto of the dear departed at the link
A suicide car bomb attack which yesterday killed two members of the Libyan National Army in Benghazi’s Gwarsha district and wounded another four has been claimed by the so-called Islamic State (IS). It named the suicide bomber as Ziyad Fawzi Gergum, posting photos of him and of the attack taken by a camera-mounted drone.

Funeral prayers for him were organised by the family today in Misrata where they have been living recently.

The family, however, are claiming that he was killed, not in a suicide bombing, but in a French airstrike. For its part, Sadek Al-Ghariani’s Tanasah TV said that he died in an operation carried out by the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council against the LNA.

Gergum himself, before the attack, posted a photo of Osman Bin laden on his Facebook page.

According to a source in Benghazi, he was a member of a relatively well-to-do local family involved in the shoe whole-selling business and was born in 1990. Following the revolution, when he was a member of the 17 February Brigade, he went to Syria where he was a member of Liwa Al-Umma under former Tripoli mayor Al-Mahdi Al-Harathi. Wounded there, he was taken to Turkey for medical treatment. He then returned to Benghazi where he joined IS but was wounded in Benina and sent this time for medical treatment to Misrata where his family joined him. Leaving them there after recuperating, he went to Sirte, remaining there for some time before returning to Benghazi where he remained until yesterdays’ suicide operation.

The Takfiris ambushed a humanitarian convoy that included workers from UNICEF, UNFPA, and IOM while returning from Bama in northeast Borno state on Thursday, injuring several people, including two soldiers, and prompting UNICEF to temporarily suspend relief assistance to review the situation.

"We are working at full strength in the Borno state capital Maiduguri," UNICEF Nigeria Representative Jean Gough said in a statement late Friday.

"We continue to call for increased efforts to reach people in desperate need across the state. We cannot let this heartless attack divert any of us from reaching the more than two million people who are in dire need of immediate humanitarian assistance."

The agency urged donors and humanitarian organizations to scale-up the response to the emerging disaster in Borno state, the epicenter of Boko Haram's seven-year insurgency.

"The violence has disrupted farming and markets, destroyed food stocks, and damaged or destroyed health and water facilities. We absolutely have to reach more of these communities," he said.

UNICEF estimates that 244,000 children will suffer from severe acute malnutrition this year in Borno state alone. And if they are not reached with treatment, one in five of them will die.

The bombing took place on the Yemeni side of the border close to the Saudi city of Najran, they said. Clashes were also seen in the northwestern Yemeni town of Haradh which borders the kingdom, witnesses told Rooters.

The flare-up in fighting was one of the worst since peace talks began in Kuwait in April between Yemen's government and the Houthis to end a 16-month conflict that has left more than 6,400 people dead, nearly half of them civilians, and displaced more than 2.5 million.

BGB busts RSO meeting, AL MP flees
[Dhaka Tribune] BGB members on Saturday afternoon tossed in the slammer
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
four people including a former commander of Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) and a Saudi national while holding a secret meeting in the dead of night in Teknaf.

Awami League politician from Cox’s Bazar 4 constituency Abdur Rahman Bodi, Teknaf Upazila Chairman Jafar Ahmed, Vice-Chairman Maulana Rafique Uddin and Baharchhara Union Chairman Aziz Uddin also attended the meeting held at the house of Maulana Syed Karim in Shamlapur area
of Baharchhara.

"But they managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...
before we reached the house," Teknaf 2 BGB Commander Lt Col Abuzar Al Jahid said.

The four arrestees are former RSO commander Hafez Salaul Islam, a resident of Dakkhin Muhuri Para in Cox’s Bazar; Syed Karim; Saudi national Abu Saleh Al Gambi; and Maulana Md Ibrahim of Dhaka.

The three others present at the meeting expeditiously departed at a goodly pace, said the battalion’s Deputy Commander Maj Abu Russel Siddique, who led the drive conducted by a special BGB team around 3:30pm.

Police say Salaul was arrested several times in the past but managed to get bail.

When contacted, Bodi claimed that he had not been present at the meeting, rather "I came later and assisted the BGB men in arresting the four."

The four detainees were being questioned at the Teknaf BGB camp.

The RSO is a Myanmar-based sectarian outfit, and has connection with several local Lion of Islam groups including outlawed Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

According to police and local sources, Salaul has close ties with the ruling party MPs from Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf, and several other leaders of the BNP and its ally Islami Oikyo Jote.

He recently set up an Islamic centre at Dakkhin Muhuri Para allegedly by grabbing seven acre land of the Forest Department and three acres from the locals. The activities of RSO are operated from this centre, say sources.

On the other hand, politician Bodi has long been accused of patronising illegal Rohingya immigrants colonists in his area.

He has been on the Interpol's wanted list since 2013 for drug trafficking.

The report added that Nabha had served in Hizbullah special services and had trained on the use of weapons and explosives.

Brazilian authorities had been searching for Nabha since May, added the report.

Europe
Austria To Build Huge Border Fence To Stop Migrants As Free Movement Crumbles
[Breitbart] AUSTRIA has unveiled plans to build a massive 100km fence along its border to stop migrants and refugees crossing into the country.

Engineers in the central European state have finalised plans for the vast barrier, which would stretch along its entire southern border with Hungary.

Austria has repeatedly clashed with Brussels over its clampdown on illegal migration and has already put a daily cap on the number of people who can claim asylum.

And earlier this year the country’s parliament voted through a motion allowing it to declare a state of emergency if migrant numbers suddenly rise, meaning it could instantly shut its borders.

The new border fence will mark a considerable escalation in Austria’s physical attempts to bring down migration, with the country only having constructed one small 4km fence along its border with Slovenia to date.

State officials have reached agreements with hundreds of landowners along the 100km stretch of border which will allow the fence to be put up in record time should the number of refugees increase again, according to a police spokesman.

Remembrance March for Victims of Nice, France Terror Attack Called Off Due to Islamist Threats
[Gateway Pundit] A remembrance march for victims of the Islamic State truck attack in Nice, France has been banned because of continuing safety concerns and stretched security services.

Two weeks ago, on the 14th of July, hundreds of people were mown down by a man crying "Allahu Akbar" as they celebrated France’s national day on the coastal Promenade des Anglais.

More than 10,000 people indicated on Facebook that they would attend the "white march" to remember the 84 who died and the dozens still in hospital.

"Given the very strong mobilisation of law enforcement and emergency and threat, the Alpes-Maritimes authorities have decided not to allow the white march that was to be held Sunday", authorities announced today in a statement, Le Figaro reports.

The organisers, "who had duly filed a declaration", were "informed yesterday (Wednesday)" of the decision, which was "made in consultation with the Mayor of Nice" the statement explained.

"March together to honour the victims of the attack on July 14, which killed at least 84 innocent people", organisers announced on Facebook.

"A thought for their families but also the wounded still hospitalised in the process of fighting," they added.

Belgium charges man with planning attack, releases brother
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Belgium charged a man with planning to commit murder in a terrorist attack and released his brother after a series of house searches on Friday evening, federal prosecutors said.

For the time being, there was no connection with the attacks at Brussels airport and the metro on March 22, in which 32 people were killed, the prosecution office said on Saturday.

Nourredine H., was detained with his brother Hamza H., on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack somewhere in Belgium.

A judge on Saturday charged Nourredine with attempting to commit a terrorist murder and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, and extended his custody.

His brother was released without charge.

The federal prosecution office had earlier said it appeared from its initial investigation that there were plans to carry out an attack somewhere in the country.

Public broadcaster RTBF said that Nourredine had previously helped others travel to fight in Syria and had recently travelled widely across Europe, making a number of contacts in La Belle France. It added he was looking for weapons, which had prompted Belgian Sherlocks to act.

Police carried out seven house searches in the region of Mons and a further house search in Liege on Friday evening. No weapons or explosives were found.

The Grand Turk
Developing: Thousands Of Turkish Forces Surround U.S. Base At Incirlik Airbase
[WeaselZippers] Erdogan has blamed Turkish Air Force members who had worked closest with NATO and U.S. as being involved in coup. They have also previously accused U.S. of involvement in the coup, even blaming the former commander of the base, who retired in March and couldn’t have been involved. But an Erdogan Islamist paper explicitly blamed him, stoking flames against NATO and the U.S.

’Protesters’, read Erdogan Islamists, were there Thursday, with pro-Erdogan Islamists yelling "death to the US" and called for the immediate closure of the Incirlik base.

Meanwhile Obama is on his birthday golf outing with the boys.

Update:
Reports of protesters in front of the U.S. Consulate in Adana. That is about 13 minutes away from Incirlik. Chanting "America, go away!"
Uh Oh.
Update at 12:45 a.m. ET: The only English language news reports I can find are from Australia and Russia Today, and they are reporting from their twitter feeds, as far as I can tell, just like this Weasel Zipper report. As you find new developments please add them to this thread, dear Reader, so as not to split the discussion.

Thanking you for the moderators,

#14  There are both Turkish airforce and US presence at Incirlik. The Turkish government claimed that an F16 that took part in the supposedly coup attempt was based out of Incirlik. The Turkish commanding officer of the Turkish presence at Incirlik was detained days ago. Protesters recently at Incirlik claimed US forces there were also responsible. Supposedly todays so called response was to address rumors of another coup attempt orchestrated I would assume by other Turkish airforce personel at Incirlik. A US General was scheduled to arrive at Incirlik today. Hopefully to arrange a departure of US forces and the nukes would be my recommendation.

#28  phil_b: Some time ago the Turks would not allow the US to use Incirlik as a drone base when asked. Then the US recently received OK to revive the Incirlik base that had been non-operational for years. I suggested then that it was one Muslim Brother (Erdogan) doing a favor for another Muslim Brother (B. Obama). The fact that we have anything to do with Erdogan after it was learned that he was supplying arms to ISIS is absurd.

#29  some info from the twitter feed:

In the wake of the coup attempt, several military officials at the Incirlik Air Base, including its commander, General Bekir Ercan Van, were arrested on treason charges by Turkish authorities, which claimed that one of the rogue F-16 planes taking part in the rebellion to overthrow Erdogan’s government had been refueled there.

The general had even reportedly attempted to seek asylum in the US, but his plea was apparently rejected.

Incirlic Air Base is used by both the Turkish and US militaries and is vital to the US-led anti-terror bombing campaign in Syria and Iraq. It also serves as one of six NATO storage sites for US tactical nuclear weapons in Europe. The exact number of nuclear bombs kept at the base is unknown, although, according to various estimates, it may store up to 90 warheads.

35 Kurd kommies die in attack on Turkish base
Live to fight another day: Not found in Kurd Kommie parlance
Turkey’s army foiled a Kurdish attempt to storm a base in the southeastern Hakkari province early on Saturday, killing 35 militants, military officials said. The militants attempted to take the base in three different groups, but were spotted by aerial reconnaissance. An air operation was launched, killing 23 of them, the officials said.

Four more were then killed in a ground operation, they said.

The remaining eight were killed hours before in clashes in Hakkari’s Cukurca between soldiers and militants from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), the officials said.

The soldiers were performing a security check when they were attacked by militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) late Friday.

Friday’s clashes in Cukurca also left 25 soldiers wounded, the officials said.

Southeast Asia
Philippine president calls off truce after rebel attack
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte called off a weeklong cease-fire after communist guerrillas killed a government militiaman and failed to declare their own truce by a Saturday deadline, in an early setback to his efforts to end one of Asia’s longest-raging rebellions.

It was the first irritant in what has been a blossoming relationship between Duterte, who calls himself a left-wing president, and the Maoist guerrillas, who have been waging a decades-long insurrection. Both sides had previously agreed to resume peace talks next month in Norway, and it was not immediately clear whether the talks would be affected.

Withdrawing his cease-fire order, Duterte said in a statement Saturday evening that he had ordered all government forces to go on high alert and "continue to discharge their normal functions and mandate to neutralize all threats to national security, protect the citizenry, enforce the laws and maintain peace in the land."

In a separate statement issued after the cease-fire order was lifted, the military said that the New People’s Army guerrillas had "missed a golden opportunity" to demonstrate their commitment to peace.

"This could have been what the Filipino nation had been waiting for - the silencing of the guns that could have hastened development, especially in the countryside," military chief of staff Gen. Ricardo Visaya said in the statement, adding that the armed forces would abide by Duterte’s latest order.

Duterte, who was sworn in on June 30, declared the government cease-fire Monday during his state of the nation address. Two days later, however, rebels killed the militiaman and maimed four others in southern Davao del Norte province, angering Duterte, who sought an explanation for the attack and gave the gunnies until 5 p.m. Saturday to declare their own cease-fire.

The rebels failed to declare a truce by the deadline. A regional rebel front man, Rigoberto Sanchez, instead accused the military of disobeying the president by continuing combat deployments and operations in the country’s south.

"There is no conspicuous and veritable unilateral cease-fire exercised by" the military, police and paramilitary forces in the south," he said in a statement posted on a rebel website.

While the New People’s Army in the south was ready to reciprocate Duterte’s cease-fire, "it cannot be harangued to reciprocate a unilateral cease-fire order that is overtly mocked by the Armed Forces of the Philippines hierarchy and its ground troops and paramilitary forces," Sanchez said.

Sanchez said that government forces have continued to undertake combat operations, surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence and psychological warfare in civilian communities, and alleged that troops were protecting "illegal activities such as drug trade and logging and mining pay-offs."

Military officials have denied rebel allegations that their combat operations were continuing, saying troops immediately shifted to defensive positions after the president announced the government cease-fire.

The snuffies had been recalled from a security mission following Duterte’s truce declaration and were traveling back to their patrol base when they came under rebel attack, the military said.

Duterte flew to Davao del Norte on Friday to attend the slain militiaman’s wake. Visibly upset, he asked the rebels if they would match his cease-fire.

"If I don’t get the word from you, then I will lift the order of cease-fire," the president said, adding that he was rejecting rebel demands for him to withdraw government troops and coppers from certain rural areas.

Rebel leaders then asked Duterte to give them more time to study his truce declaration, and the president responded by saying that was "not a good response."

The decades-long communist insurgency has left about 150,000 combatants and civilians dead since it broke out in the late 1960s. It also has stunted economic development, especially in the countryside, where the Maoist gunnies are active.

Under Duterte’s predecessor, Benigno Aquino III, peace talks stalled over the government’s refusal to heed a rebel demand for the release of some captured guerrillas. Duterte, however, has agreed to the release of detained rebels, who would be involved in peace talks, and designated two allies of the guerrillas to Cabinet posts in concessions aimed at fostering the talks.

It was unclear whether the emerging differences between Duterte and the guerrillas would affect the peace talks, scheduled for Aug. 20-27 in the Norwegian capital of Oslo.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian rebel troops continue advances into Manbij
MANBIJ – The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) freed some 3,000 civilians on Saturday, after making more advances against the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) in the city of Manbij, the SDF leadership reported.

Speaking to ARA News, the official spokesman of the SDF-led Manbij Military Council Sharvan Darwish said they have freed nearly 3,000 cvilians after their forces took control of the Al-Jazeera road in Manbij city in Syria’s northern Aleppo province.

“Everyday we are liberating civilians who were trapped inside clashes districts and take them to safe areas,” he said.

“In the last few days our forces were able to release 500 to 1000 civilians per day, however today the number has increased after we liberated the Al Jazeera road,” the SDF official told ARA News.

ISIS militants have been using the trapped civilians as human shield in order to halt the advance made by SDF forces. The group has also killed dozens of people who tried to escape the city of Manbij.

The Kurdish-led SDF forces accepted an initiative by the Manbij notable citizens to open a humanitarian corridor, but so far, ISIS did not respond to any initiative to free civilians stranded in the war-torn city.

“More than 70 per cent of Manbij is officially liberated. Our forces are now tightening the siege over the city. The ISIS militants will soon collapse in Manbij, and we are not far from liberating the city centre,” Darwish concluded.

No Netflix and Kill for you: ISIS bans satellite TV

(IraqiNews.com) BAGHDAD – The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) decreed that it will punish owners of satellite dishes in Deir al-Zour province (north-eastern Syria) with 50 lashes and a fine of 10,000 Syrian Pounds which is equal to approximately $46 US Dollars.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said “ISIS has recently stepped up its campaign to ban the use of satellite dishes in the territories under its control in Syria and Iraq because they claim to broadcast rumors among Muslims.”
