Afghanistan
Suicide bomber targets foreign military vehicles in Kabul
[NATION.PK] A powerful blast hit downtown Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
today as a suicide boom-mobileer targeted foreign military vehicles, officials said, with casualties feared.

The blast came on the main road to the airport, around 500 metres from the US embassy and near a base for foreign troops.

"It was a suicide boom-mobileer targeting a convoy of foreign forces in Kabul," interior ministry spokesperson Sediq Sediqqi said.

Kabul deputy police chief Sayed Gul Aga Rohani confirmed the attack and said there were casualties, but no details were immediately available.

The blast comes hours after a suicide truck bomb targeted a police headquarters in the restive southern province of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, killing at least two people.

Two Killed in Helmand Suicide Blast Near Police HQ
[Tolo News] At least two civilians, including a woman, were killed and 51 injured in a suicide kaboom near police headquarters in southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province early Tuesday, local officials said.

The attack took place in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand, after a suicide boom-mobileer detonated his explosives near the police headquarters, a front man for provincial governor, Omar Zwak said.

All the victims were reportedly civilians and they were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, Bart was wondering if fisticuffs would be appropriate at this point...
a witness said that three other turbans tried to enter the building after the jacket wallah detonated his explosives. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
witnesses say one gunman was bumped off by police but the other two expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

Egyptian policeman killed in drive-by shooting outside Helwan's Wax Museum
[Al Ahram] A policeman was killed when gunnies in a car opened fire on the coppers guarding the Wax Museum in Cairo's Helwan suburb on Tuesday, an interior ministry source told state news agency MENA.

The coppers shot back at the gunnies, who bravely ran away.

In Beni Suef, also on Tuesday, a person lost their hand when the bomb they were carrying detonated, before fleeing the scene of the incident, according to MENA.
...leaving his hand behind them -- somewhat like Little Bo Peep's sheep, though of course completely different and deservedly much more painful.
In recent months, dozens of small bombs have been planted around Egypt, targeting security personnel as well as infrastructure like electricity pylons.

[Al Ahram] Security forces enjugged
You have the right to remain silent...
20 alleged members of the Moslem Brüderbund accused in several violence-related and incitement of violence cases across the country on Monday, the Ministry of Interior announced on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.

In a short statement the Ministry of Interior announced that it arrested on Monday the 20 alleged members of the Moslem Brüderbund in what it called "a preemptive strike" to target the middle generation of leading figures in the Islamist organization.

The statement added that the security forces arrested another 13 alleged members in several governorates including Alexandria, Gharbia, Fayoum and Bani-Sweif in the past few days.

The Moslem Brüderbund was designated as a terrorist organization by the Egyptian government in 2013.

The announcement of the Ministry of Interior comes a day after the liquidation of Egypt's top prosecutor Hisham Barakat in a bombing in Cairo.

Car bomb in Yemeni capital hits mourners, dozens wounded
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] A boom-mobile claimed by Islamic State

In a new sign that three months of war in Yemen

was ratcheting up, the country's military front man said its forces had launched a Scud missile at a Saudi military base on Tuesday.

A Saudi-led military alliance has been bombing Yemen's dominant Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. group and its allies in the army to dislodge them from the capital and restore the exiled president.

A sectarian-tinged conflict has raged throughout Yemen's south and center, pitting the Shi'ite Moslem Houthis against mostly Sunni local faceless myrmidons who support the Arab intervention.

The political vacuum has given hardline Sunni forces of Evil greater room to operate. They regard the Houthis as apostates worthy of death, and the overnight blast was the latest in a series of attacks on the group and their supporters.
"The kaboom was caused by a boom-mobile which went kaboom! behind the military hospital in the Sha'oub district in Sanaa, which injured 28 people including 12 women in a building where victims of a previous attack were being mourned," a medical source said.

In a statement posted online, Islamic State grabbed credit for the blast, saying it had targeted the area "out of Dire Revenge for the Moslems against the Houthi apostates."

Despite the months of Arab air strikes backing up the Houthis' armed opponents in Yemen, the Houthis have not lost ground on the battlefield and have stepped up their exchanges of artillery and rocket fire with Saudi forces along their border.

Yemeni forces launched a Scud missile at a missile base in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
on Tuesday, Yemeni state news agency Saba quoted the military's front man as saying.

"The rocket units in our heroic armed forces today launched a Scud missile at the Al Sulayyil missile base in Riyadh province ... it comes as a response to the crimes of the brutal Saudi aggression," Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman said.

Luqman said the attack hit the base, which is about 450 km (280 miles) south of the Saudi capital Riyadh, but a previous Scud launched by Yemen's forces earlier this month was shot down by Saudi patriot missiles despite Yemeni claims it struck its target.

Yemen fighting allows 1,200 prisoners to flee
[TIMESOFINDIA.INDIATIMES] A Yemeni security official says some 1,200 inmates fled a prison in a southwestern city after guards deserted their posts amid fierce fighting between Iranian catspaws and their opponents.

The official says the Tuesday jailbreak in Taiz came after the city's main prison was caught in crossfire between southerners fighting for autonomy or outright independence and the rebels, known as Houthis, who are backed by army units loyal to a former president. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

It was the third major jailbreak in Yemen

Iraq
ISIS propaganda claims to refutes death of Mullah Shwan
[RUDAW.NET] A propaganda photo released by the Islamic State on Monday allegedly shows Mullah Shwan holding a dated sign that disproves recent social media reports of his death.

In the photo Shwan is shown with a placard that reads “Lies have short wings,” referring to the announcement by the Iraqi government that he had been killed along with nine other ISIS fighters. The date on the sign was Monday, June 29.

The Iraqi military had said earlier this month that airstrikes from the US-led coalition had taken out Shwan's group near Hawija, in Kirkuk province, while breaking their Ramadan fast.

Shwan, also known as Abu Harwon, was a well-known Kurdish cleric in Erbil prior to joining ISIS in November with his wife and children. His defection to the jihadist group shocked the religious community in the Kurdistan region's capital.

Since joining ISIS, Shwan has appeared in numerous propaganda videos. In one instance, he was shown purportedly taking part in the beheading of four apparently Shiite hostages belonging to the Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Units.

Four Israelis hurt after shots fired at car in West Bank: security sources
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Four Israelis were maimed, one seriously, when their car came under fire on a road near the West Bank settlement of Shvut Rachel Monday, Israeli security sources said.

The injured, all of them men in their 20s, were taken to Israeli hospitals. One of them was in a serious condition, the sources said.

The shots were fired at a crossroads near the settlement in the north of the West Bank.

The president of the Shomron regional council, which groups together the Jewish settlements in the region, said in a statement "that we must not let terrorism spread."

"I call on the government to authorise the army to act without pity against these savages who take civilians for targets," he said.

At least 116 dead in Indonesia military plane crash
[DAWN] At least 116 people were killed Tuesday when an Indonesian air force transport plane crashed into a major city shortly after take-off and went kaboom! in a fireball, officials said.

Buildings were left in ruins and cars reduced to flaming wrecks when the Hercules C-130 came down in a residential area of Medan, a city of two million on the island of Sumatra.

Air force chief Agus Supriatna said the manifest showed there were 113 people on board the plane -- 12 crew and 101 passengers -- when it crashed, and he did not believe any had survived.

"No, no. No survivors, I have just returned from the site," he told AFP in answer to a question.

So far, 49 bodies had been recovered and taken to hospital, he said.

Many passengers were likely to be family members of servicemen and women, said a front man for Medan airbase from where the plane departed. At least one child has so far been confirmed killed.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Daraa: South Storm rebels hit army base by homemade surface-to-surface missile
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The military front man of South Storm battle in Daraa province said a homemade missile has destroyed the military operations room of Syrian forces in the Old City of Daraa, the Syrian Media Commission reported on Monday.

The front man (Dubbed: Abu Qusai) said fighters of the South Storm have stormed regime's operations room in al-Manshiya neighborhood in Daraa al-Balad by a homemade surface-to-surface missile that weighs 500 kg of explosives.

The missile called 'The Storm' and it was used for the first time in Daraa battles, Abu Qusai said.

Last Wednesday, rebels launched 'South Storm' battle to eliminate the presence of regime forces and its allied militias in Daraa, according to video statement.

Rebels in Syrian south have inflicted significant defeats on Bashir al-Assad in the last three months, notably by capturing the Nasib border crossing with Jordan on April 1.

Southern region, including Daraa, is of strategic importance due to its proximity to Damascus and neighboring states Israel and Jordan. It is also the last significant foothold of mainstream rebels, who have mostly been crushed elsewhere in Syria by government forces or jihadist groups, according to AP.

Islamic State scores up gains and losses in Syrian fighting
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters stormed the Syrian town of Tel Abyad on the Turkish border on Tuesday and captured a neighborhood from the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, but suffered setbacks in the northeastern city of Hasaka, a monitor and the army said.

Islamic State has launched simultaneous attacks against Syrian government and Kurdish militia this past week in the multi-sided Syrian civil war after losing ground to Kurdish-led forces near the capital of its "caliphate".

Backed by U.S.-led air strikes, the YPG militia has advanced deep into the bad boys' stronghold province, Raqqa, capturing key positions from the jihadists, including Tel Abyad.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said there were heavy festivities on Tuesday around Tel Abyad, which serves as a border crossing, and that hard boyz had taken control of an area in the eastern part of the town.

YPG front man Redur Xelil said festivities were ongoing with the hard boyz who had infiltrated a village on the outskirts of the town. "They are encircled ... this will be mass suicide for them," he told Rooters.

The British-based Observatory, which tracks violence across Syria through sources on the ground, said Islamic State had deployed scores of fighters across several villages.

The ultra-radical group, which holds large tracts of Syria's thinly populated east, launched a lighting assault on the strategic northeastern city of Hasaka last Thursday in a bid to capture government-held districts.

But in the last two days, the Syrian army has been able to regain most of the areas of the city the hard boyz had seized.

The Syrian army's ability to hold on to Hasaka and also separately repel a major rebel assault on the lovely provincial capital of the southern province of Deraa on the border with Jordan, stands in stark contrast to a string of recent setbacks.

Hasaka is important for all sides, because it sits between Islamic State-held territory in Syria and in nearby Iraq.

Syria regime raids kill 10 in Damascus suburb
[Al Ahram] At least 10 people, including two children, were killed in Syrian government air strikes on the rebel-held Damascus suburb of Douma on Tuesday, a monitor said.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said another 50 people were maimed in the strikes, adding the corpse count was likely to rise because a number of the maimed were at death's door and other residents missing under rubble.

An AFP photographer at a field clinic in the suburb saw the body of a young girl lying on a stretcher, with her hand protruding from under a makeshift shroud fashioned from a blanket.

Wounded people flooded into the clinic, with one man whose face was caked in white dust bleeding from the scalp through a gauze dressing.

Most of the floor was filled with the injured, some receiving treatment and others waiting, with the rare empty spaces smeared with blood.

Douma lies in the opposition bastion area of Eastern Ghouta, which has been subjected to continuous regime aerial bombardment for months.

Rebels regularly fire missiles into the capital Damascus from the region, but many civilians remain in the area as well.

Earlier in June, at least 24 people, including five children, were killed in government strikes and rocket fire on Douma as the UN's peace envoy Staffan de Mistura visited the Syrian capital.

Another nine people were killed in rebel rocket fire on Damascus on the same day.

De Mistura condemned that exchange of fire and urged civilians to be protected on both sides of the conflict, which began in March 2011 with anti-government protests.

Elsewhere in Syria on Tuesday, the Observatory said at least seven people were killed in government air strikes across Idlib province.

Most of the northwestern province is now under rebel control, after an alliance of opposition groups including Al-Qaeda's local affiliate evicted regime forces from their last strongholds.
