Dozen Killed in Double Suicide Attack against Mali Rebels
[AnNahar] Around a dozen people were killed when a pro-government gang, including jacket wallahs, launched an attack on rebel fighters in northern Mali, security sources said Wednesday.

"GATIA fighters, accompanied by suicide bombers, attacked a rebel Tuareg and anti-government Arab position in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday near the town of Tabankort. There were around a dozen deaths in total," a Western military source told AFP.

"The situation is very volatile, and it is essential to calm the situation," added the source.

Huthis Block Fresh Protest in Sanaa
[AnNahar] Yemen's powerful Shiite militia had gun sex and made arrests Wednesday for the third time this week to prevent a rally in Sanaa against their tightening grip on the capital, witnesses said.

They said the turbans also used batons against the demonstrators, a number of whom were maimed.

"No to confessionalism," the protesters chanted before being forced to abandon a planned march through the center of Sanaa.

It was the third such incident since Sunday, following President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi's announcement three days earlier that he was handing in his resignation.

Opponents of the Huthis have been urging demonstrations against their occupation of the capital, which has plunged Yemen into crisis.

The militia, who descended from their base in Yemen's north to overrun Sanaa in September, last week seized control of the presidential palace and key government buildings.

On Tuesday, however, they freed a top aide to Hadi.

Shibir leader succumbs to injuries in Dhaka
[Dhaka Tribune] A Shibir leader, who was injured in a crude kaboom on January 21 in Chittagong city's Kadamtali area, has departed this vale of tears in Dhaka on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

The dear departed was Sakibul Islam, 25, a Degree (Fajil) first year student of Baitush Saraf Alia Madrasha and the Shathi (a post of Shibir) of the Madrasha, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mohiuddin Selim of Kotwali cop shoppe.

He died in Apollo Hospitals in the capital early Wednesday while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital, said the OC.

After postmortem the dead body will be handed over to his family, added the police official.

The Shibir leader sustained splinter injuries in the right part in his face from a crude kaboom during allegedly carrying the bomb for doing subversive activities on the 16thday of BNP-led-20-part alliance in Kadamtali area.
Oh. He wasn't just an innocent by-deader, then.
Police rescued the Shibir leader at death's door and admitted him to CMCH for treatment from where he was shifted to Dhaka for better treatment, said police sources.

Later police filed a case in this connection accusing the Shibir leader under Explosive Act with Kotwali cop shoppe on the following day.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
police detained nine persons of BNP-Jamaat conducting drives from the different parts of Chittagong for their alleged involvement with subversive acts, said police sources.

No inter-district bus left Chittagong for other destinations fearing attack on highway while train service was being operated behind the schedule due to blockade, said sources.

Escorted by highway police goods-laden trucks, covered-vans and petroleum-oil trucks were plying on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, said Highway police sources.

'Gunfight' with police kills college teacher and 'robber'
[Dhaka Tribune] In separate incidents of "shootouts" with the police, a college teacher in Rajshahi and an alleged robber in Satkhira were killed in the early hours of yesterday.

The dear departed in Rajshahi ‐ Nurul Islam Shahin, 45 ‐ was a teacher of Rajshahi's Islamia College and also the former president of Jamaat's ward 30 unit, said Jamaat's Rajshahi city unit Secretary Jahangir Alam.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Rajshahi district police headquarters, RMP Commissioner Muhammad Shamsudddin said Shahin was tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
on 9pm Tuesday from the city's Malopara area. But when members of the Detective Branch later took Shahin with them on a drive around 2:15am, Shibir men attacked the law enforcers and snatched Shahin near the city's Nalkhola area, claimed the RMP chief.

"Police fired around 20 bullets with rifles and shotguns to bring the situation under control, leaving Shahin bullet-hit," Shamsuddin said, adding that Shahin departed this vale of tears after being rushed to the DMCH.

He also claimed that the police recovered a revolver, 10 crude bombs, two pistol bullets and five shotgun bullets from the spot, our Rajshahi correspondent reports.

The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police chief said Shahin ‐ who also owned a local offset printing press ‐ was a patron to local Shibir cadres and was suspected of leading an attack in 2013 on the then Motihar cop shoppe OC Abdul Mazid.

Shahin was an accused in 13 cases filed with several cop shoppes in the city and a wanted criminal in eight cases regarding acts of sabotage and attacks on law enforcers, Commissioner Shamsuddin added.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
the family of the dear departed claimed that there was foul play involved with the death of Shahin.

Fazlul Haque Tuhin, Shahin's brother, said the Detective Branch of police had picked up his brother from his printing press on Tuesday night. When the family contacted the DB office after the arrest, they were told that Shahin would be released in the morning.

But the family later received a call from the RMCH in the morning, informing them that Nurul's body was at the hospital. Following an autopsy, Shahin's body was handed over to his family in the afternoon, confirmed the front man for the RMP, Assistant Commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam.

Meanwhile,

Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
Rajshahi city unit Ameer Abul Hashem claimed that Shahin's death was a cold-blooded murder by the police, who killed the college teacher as he was a supporter of Jamaat.

Protesting the death, the Jamaat has called a 36-hour hartal
... a peculiarly Bangla combination of a general strike and a riot, used by both major political groups in lieu of actual governance ...
from 6am Saturday in eight districts of Rajshahi division, he also confirmed.

#2  Well Shahin was bullet hit, the SPOT is mentioned so we got that going. However, I don't recall an offset press (Abu B. Dick?) ever playing a part in a Crossfire.

What really happened in Mindanao on Sunday?
[Inquirer] Information gathered from different sources, including Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chief Murad Ebrahim, has been used to piece together the events in Maguindanao that led to the deaths of 44 elite police commandos in a gun battle with Moro militants on Sunday.

Around 6:30 a.m. the MILF fighters in Tukanalipao noticed armed uniformed men approaching. Murad said it was the policemen from Special Action Force (SAF) who first fired upon members of the MILF 105th Base Command, sparking the firefight.

The scene of battle was a vast cornfield where the SAF commandos, reportedly not familiar with the terrain, ended up as sitting ducks for some 100 MILF fighters.

A government source said that the SAF forces were divided into two units, a primary force and a secondary force.

The primary force was to get Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, alias "Marwan," a bomb expert from Jemaah Islamiyah on whose head the United States had placed a $6-million bounty. The SAF had a secondary target, local terrorist Abdul Basit Usman, another bomb expert for whose capture the United States has offered a $3-million reward. The secondary force was to "protect" the primary force.

It was the secondary force that ended up fighting the MILF guerrillas from the 105th Base Command, the source said. After several hours of fighting, the two sides deescalated but as the MILF withdrew, the source said, militants from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) opened fire on the SAF.

The BIFF had another version of what happened. Group spokesman Abu Misri Mama said at the start, only BIFF militants were involved in the incident. When BIFF forces detected several military vehicles, they prepared an ambush. Mama said, "Many of the casualties [fell] during the ambush."

Thai border police attacked, three militants nabbed
[The Nation] Three Thai border policemen were injured by a roadside bomb in Yala province yesterday, hours after a civilian was shot and injured. The three officers were on patrol aboard two motorcycles when they were hit by the blast. Authorities believe the attacks were committed by militants.

Police later said that a civilian was shot on Monday night near the site of the bomb. So it seems likely that militants wanted to draw police out to the scene and then attack them with the roadside bomb.

In Narathiwat, two gunmen on a motorcycle fired on Task Force 32 headquarters on Monday evening before fleeing after soldiers returned fire. Task Force 32 has often been targeted since its men killed 13 militants in a well-planned ambush last year. Militants also fired on a security outpost in Yi Ngor district on Monday evening.

Back in Yala, security officials arrested three men, top suspects reportedly trained by foreign terror group Runda Kumpulan Kecil and wanted on nine arrest warrants between them. The men have been identified as Matorhe Sile, Saudi Ding-u-seng and Mahama Mamidong.
