516 'Brotherhood Elements' Arrested on Egypt Anniversary
[AnNahar] Egyptian police nabbed
Please don't kill me!
more than 500 supporters of the blacklisted Moslem Brüderbund when deadly violence erupted on the anniversary of the 2011 uprising, the interior minister said Monday.

Protesters and security forces clashed Sunday after Islamists called for demonstrations against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's government as Egypt marked the fourth anniversary of the toppling of ex-strongman Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
.

On Sunday, "we arrested 516 elements from the Moslem Brüderbund group who were involved in firing ammunition, planting explosives and bombing some facilities," said Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim, who has overseen a bloody police crackdown targeting the Brotherhood.

Ibrahim also said that Mubarak's sons Alaa and Gamal have been released from jail pending a retrial in a corruption case, four years after their arrest following the uprising.

Morocco Arrests Alleged Algerian Jihadist
[AnNahar] Moroccan authorities have tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
an Algerian national thought to be a member of Jund al-Khilafa, a jihadist group responsible for the September beheading of a French tourist, authorities said Sunday.

The operation was carried out by police near the border town of Ahfir, about 30 kilometers north of Oujda, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry, which did not give a date for the arrest.

The Algerian national, whose identity was not revealed, was "in possession of large quantities of dangerous substances" and his arrest also led to the discovery of firearms, it said.

"The suspect was accompanied by another person, whose identity is the subject of investigation," the statement added.

Jund al-Khilafa, (Soldiers of the Caliphate) -- who have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group -- last year grabbed credit for kidnapping and killing Hervé Gourdel, a 55-year-old mountain guide in the Djurdjura ranges southeast of Algiers.

The Algerian army mobilised some 3,000 troops in the search for the Frenchie's body and eventually found it earlier this month after a tip-off from a suspected holy warrior being held in jug.

Gourdel's remains will be transferred to La Belle France on Monday.

As part of the investigation, prosecution cases have been brought against 15 people, all Algerian nationals.

At least six jihadis have also been killed, including the leader of Jund al-Khilafa, Abdelmalik Gouri, who the army said it had killed in December.

In November Morocco announced the arrest of six men in the region of Berkane, near Oujda, for making a video in which they announced "the appearance of Jund al-Khilafa" in the kingdom.

The long common border between Algeria and Morocco has been officially closed for more than 20 years owing to persistent diplomatic disputes.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
it is still the site of various forms of contraband trafficking.

Abducted Deputy Foreign Minister freed; government investigation begins
[Libya Herald] The Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Saghir who was kidnapped from his hotel in Beida early yesterday morning has been sprung. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
there is still no explanation as to why he was kidnapped.

The Deputy Prime Minister Salem Al-Badri has launched an enquiry and was questioning Saghir this afternoon as exactly what happened.

Meanwhile both the Interior Minister and the Libyan National Army have said that none of their people were involved in the abduction.

Numerous explanations have been advanced as to who was behind it, some more fantastical than others, most of which centre round the notion that someone with connections in Beida had it in for Saghir because he would not do what was asked of him.

The incident is seen as seen as damaging the government which until now has managed to act in safety in Beida.

Libya: Further clashes in both east and west despite ceasefire
[Libya Herald] Claims by Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
forces to have launched a major operation today to seize Wattiya air base between Al-Jmail and the Jebel Nafusa used by the Libya National Army's air force have been denied by Zintani officials.

Zintani forces control the base.

Meanwhile there are reports that despite the supposed ceasefire issued by both LNA and Misratan forces in compliance with the call from delegates to the first round of the Geneva dialogue negotiations, continued festivities are reported south west of Zawia.

Yesterday, air strikes were reported near Zawia as well as in the area between Sorman and Sabratha.

Fresh LNA air strikes today have been reported at Ben Jawad, the small town some 30 kilometres west of Sidra which Libya Dawn's Operation Sunrise forces have been trying to take for over a month. The town, most of whose residents have fled, is the forward base for Sunrise fighters, with the frontline some five kilometres further east.

In Benghazi, violence continued today as planes also hit targets today in Garyounis, Hawari, Leithi and Buhdeima. According to According to the LNA, the targets were bases controlled by the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shoura Council, the alliance of Islamists led by Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. Many reported dead in Benghazi as LNA moves to flush out Ansar Al-Sharia
[Libya Herald] There has been deadly violence in parts of Benghazi today and this evening with Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
under intensive attack by the Libyan National Army. According to an LNA source, the holy warriors have been firing rockets at random in response in both Leithi and neighbouring Buhdeima.

Reports vary on the number of dead and injured following what appears to have been an attempt by the LNA to flush out Ansar fighters in Leithi as well as the port area and nearby Sabri.

According to reports from Jalaa Hospital and the Benghazi Medical Centre, at least a dozen people were killed, of whom three were civilians including a seven-year-old girl and her mother. They died in Buhdeima. The rest were members of the LNA. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
ambulances are still taking casualties to Jalaa Hospital, which is close to Leithi, and the figure is expected to rise.

So far, some 40 people (38 soldiers and two civilians) have injured, some seriously, and taken to Jalaa.

The figures do not appear to include Ansar casualties. "They were everywhere in Benghazi today," a local resident said, after the LNA operation started. "They were lost They were trying to hide but they didn't know where to go.," he said, suggesting that they were not from the city. Several had been killed, he added, with locals were keeping the LNA informed as to where they were.

Parts of the city are a war zone, with tanks moving moving around. "There is a tank outside my shop," the resident said. Helicopter gunships were also being used, he added.

One source in the LNA says that Hafter ordered the attacks on Ansar to be intensified because, having gone to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to pay his condolences at the death of King Abdullah, he was concerned that if it became known he was away, Ansar and its colleagues might try a new offensive. Mohammed Hejazi, the front man for Operation Dignity, has denied that Hafter left the country, however.

Civilians involved in Zawia attacks
[Libya Herald] A peaceful protest in Zawia yesterday turned into a scene of violence according to local media.

Local media is reporting that gunnies, apparently associated with Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
, arrived and began to beat protesters who were holding a peaceful demonstration against bloodshed and fighting in the country.

The protestors were calling for a ceasefire, national reconciliation and the rebuilding of state institutions. Though they said they were not supporting any political side, the attackers accused them of supporting Operation Dignity.

Meanwhile it has emerged that armed gunnies attacked a farm belonging to Qadaffy regime figures near Zawia, kidnapping several members of one family late last week.

The Death Eaters, stationed at Camp Siyad west of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, broke into the home of the Khalil family in the area of Tina, near Zawia, and kidnapped the older men after allegedly terrorising the family.

When the attackers entered the home they are said to have fired at those inside, injuring Ahmed Khalil in the leg. He was reportedly still bleeding when the attackers took him away.

Saad Khalil at first refused to go with the attackers. According to other family members, they beat him and then grabbed his young son and began to abuse him, forcing Saad to surrender to them. In addition to Saad and Ahmed, the attackers also grabbed Essam and Fouad Khalil.

Sources close to the family say that they believe the men are being held in Zawia. Their fate is unknown.

Residents in the Tina area as well as the Warshefana have regularly complained of widespread kidnappings, destruction and threats at the hands of Zawia militias. They say they are living in a constant state of fear and instability and that it is affecting the area economically with many shops, bakeries and petrol stations closed due to the security situation.

Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, there was only one thought in the mouse's mind: I can do this! I can do this! Then the trap sprung...
the nearby Al-Maya area witnessed the suspicious death of a colonel in the Libyan Army. Abdullah Al-Nasr Al-Harari Al-Warshefani is said to have been kidnapped by Zawia fighters stationed at Camp Siyad. He was released the same day, but while returning home was in a traffic accident, taken to hospital and subsequently died. The causes of the accident have not yet been revealed.

Many members of the Warshefana are reported being held by Libya Dawn forces at the camp in Sidi Bilal Besaad. Although activists have tried to ascertain the conditions of the detainees, their efforts have so far been in vain.

The detainees area said to include a member of the Zawia Security Directorate, members of the Warshefana Crisis Committee, a member of the Al-Maya Municipal Council and a Marine Corps officer.

Video shows execution of Egypt officer by Sinai extremists
[Ynet] A video has emerged showing the execution of an Egyptian police captain by hard boyz in the restive northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.

The footage, which circulated on social media Monday, shows the officer's kidnapping at gunpoint earlier this month by men armed with automatic weapons and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

In a later scene, the officer speaks to the camera, holding back tears as he identifies himself. He shows his pistol to explain that he was armed when captured "by the Mujahedeen of the Province of Sinai," the name used by Islamic bully boyz who have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State

In the final scene, the officer is shot in the head while kneeling. Egyptian authorities had announced his killing earlier this month.

group's Egyptian affiliate, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, claimed in a video released Monday the killing of a police officer whose body was found almost two weeks ago.

Egyptian troops found the body of Ayman al-Desouky, who had been kidnapped from near the town of Rafah on the border with the Gazoo Strip, during a search operation in North Sinai on January 13.

In the video released on its Twitter account, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis (Partisans of Jerusalem) said its bandidos bandidos bad boys kidnapped Desouky and later executed him.

The footage shows gunnies dragging a policeman out of a car at a checkpoint manned by bandidos bandidos bad boys wielding machineguns and rocket-propelled grenades.

It then shows a holy warrior shooting the blindfolded and handcuffed officer in the head three times.

Prior to the shooting, the video titled "We swear to avenge" shows riot police arresting female protesters at Cairo's Al-Azhar University, the prestigious seat of Sunni Moslem learning.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s New King Helped Fund Radical Terrorist Groups
However, throughout his public career in government, Salman has embraced radical Muslim clerics and has been tied to the funding of radical groups in Afghanistan, as well as an organization found to be plotting attacks against America, according to various reports and information provided by David Weinberg, a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.

In 2001, an international raid of the Saudi High Commission for Aid to Bosnia, which Salman founded in 1993, unearthed evidence of terrorist plots against America, according to separate exposĂŠs written by Dore Gold, an Israeli diplomat, and Robert Baer, a former CIA officer.

Salman is further accused by Baer of having “personally approved all important appointments and spending” at the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), a controversial Saudi charity that was hit with sanctions following the attacks of September 11, 2001, for purportedly providing material support to al Qaeda.

Salman also has been reported to be responsible for sending millions of dollars to the radical mujahedeen that waged jihad in Afghanistan in the 1980s, according to Bruce Riedel, a former CIA officer who is now director of the Brookings Intelligence Project.

“In the early years of the war—before the U.S. and the Kingdom ramped up their secret financial support for the anti-Soviet insurgency—this private Saudi funding was critical to the war effort,” according to Riedel. “At its peak, Salman was providing $25 million a month to the mujahedeen. He was also active in raising money for the Bosnian Muslims in the war with Serbia.”

[NY Times] A C.I.A. drone strike on Monday on a car in eastern Yemen, the first since the resignation of President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, killed three suspected Qaeda gunnies, American officials said, in a signal that the United States will continue its assassination operations in the country despite the apparent takeover by Houthi

Bangladesh
Hefazat demands release of Mufti Harun
[Dhaka Tribune] The central leaders of radical Islamist platform Hefajat-e-Islam
...a madrassa-based false nose and mustache of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, formed in 2010 to protest against secular education. In 2011 demonstrated violentyly against women's rights and in 2013 held large rallies demanding capital punishment of Shahbag Square protesters and banning women working outside the home...
yesterday demanded the immediate release of Harun Bin Izhar, son of Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury.

In a statement, the Hefazat leaders also warned of tougher movement if Mufti Harun was not freed.

Mufti Harun is in jail in a grenade blast case at his father's Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa in Chittagong which is believed to be a den of banned Islamist group HuJI
Founded in 1984 by Fazlur Rehman Khalil and Qari Saifullah Aktar. The Bangla branch was established in 1992 with assistance from Osama bin Laden. Recruits come mostly from Deobandi madrassahs. HuJI and Fazlur Rehman Khalil are signators of bin Laden's declaration of war on the west.

Leaders of the platform, comprising Islamist parties mainly of the BNP-led alliance, alleged that the government had locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
Mufti Harun in a "fake, preplanned and staged" incident and that he was serving jail term "without committing any offence."

His rearrest from jail gate recently by detectives is a clear violation of human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
, Hefazat claims.

A Chittagong court on June 25 last year indicted Mufti Izhar, Mufti Harun and seven others in a case filed over recovery of picric acid after the grenade blasts on October 7, 2013.

Several locally-made grenades were set off at Jamaatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa, a Qawmi madrasa headed by Mufti Izhar, leaving five students injured critically. Later three of them gave up the ghost. Police filed three cases in connection with the blast, killing and recovery of picric acid.

French authorities raid prison cells of radicals
Getting serious, they are.
[Ynet] The Gay Paree prosecutor's office says authorities have found phones, USB flash drives and other equipment during searches of about 80 prison cells of Islamic turbans after terrorist attacks earlier this month.

The prosecutor's office said Monday that Sherlocks are analyzing the material found in the searches.

Two of the Islamic holy warriors behind the Jan. 7-9 attacks had met in a French prison. They had also been in contact with prominent imprisoned radical Djamel Beghal, convicted of plotting to blow up the US Embassy in Gay Paree.

Three flights diverted after bomb threats
[CBSDFW.COM] A Delta Air Lines front man says a flight from Los Angeles to Orlando was diverted to Dallas Sunday afternoon due to "a security concern."

A tweet was sent out from the twitter handle @AllahuAhkbar911 to various groups including @DeltaAssist.
WE HAVE PLANTED EXPLOSIVES ON DELTA FLIGHT #1061 FROM LA TO ORLANDO, WE ARE ISIS, WE ARE HERE, YOU WONT BE.

Spokesman Morgan Durrant said passengers on Flight 1061 got off the Boeing 737-900 so authorities can search the aircraft.

According to DFW Airport officials, flight 1061 landed at 4:25 p.m. and the airport's DPS crew inspected the plane per protocol.

The airline continued the flight after authorities determine it safe to do so.

Investigators have not confirmed if the person who posted the message is connected to ISIS.
It doesn't really matter if they're formally connected, if they are working toward a common goal. Catch those making threats and throw them in prison for an uncomfortably long time.

Sunday was a busy day for bomb threats:
Bomb Threats Nationwide Force Planes To Reroute, Isolate Upon Landing

[Breitbart] Two planes that had just touched down on Sunday afternoon at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport were immediately isolated, reportedly due to multiple bomb threats. The flights arrived into Seattle from Long Beach, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and Phoenix, Arizona.

A third plane, a Delta Airlines flight originally scheduled to fly on Sunday afternoon from Los Angeles to Orlando, was diverted to Dallas due to "a security concern."

It remains unclear whether the three Sunday bomb threats are connected. Sunday's threats come just one day after NORAD scrambled two fighter jets to escort two flights to Atlanta. On Saturday, airline officials received a "credible" bomb threat via Twitter, prompting the partial shutdown of Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.

[DAWN] Gunmen on Monday killed a policeman guarding a polio

Govt blames sabotage for massive power breakdown
[DAWN] As people in smaller towns and rural areas across the country and in Azad Kashmire continued to face electricity blackouts on Sunday, the government attributed the national crisis to sabotage and claimed to have restored 7,500MW supply against a nationwide demand of 11,500MW.

Officials said two double circuit transmission lines between Sibbi and Guddu had been under repair for about 10 days when two towers of the third line between Uch and Sibbi, known in official jargon as single circuit contingency line, came under attack, leading to tripping of two Uch power stations.

This led to a usual domino effect on the entire system, cutting off Guddu and then the rest of the national grid as engineers struggled to isolate Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
Water and Power Secretary Younas Dagha said the power system in the rest of the country could not be protected from going offline because the major Sibbi-Guddu line was already under repair.

Addressing a presser, he said technicians took about two hours to restore the transmission and Islamabad was re-energised in about three hours and Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

#2  Let's see.

The country of Pakistain with 310,403 square miles in area, and 196 million residents, produces one-tenth the power (11,500MW) of North Carolina's 116,700MW (52,672 sq mi with a population of 10 million).

For reference, Rhode Island (1,213 sq mi) produces roughly 8,300MW, for their just over 1 million residents.

Seems like the late 19th century power grid these folks have leaves a lot to be desired.

Iraq
Iraq Forces 'Liberate' Diyala Province from IS
[AnNahar] Iraqi forces have "liberated" Diyala province from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group, retaking all populated areas of the eastern region, a top army officer said on Monday.

The symbolic victory for Baghdad, which has at times struggled to push IS back, could clear the way for further advances against the jihadists

"We announce the liberation of Diyala from the (IS) organization," Staff Lieutenant General Abdulamir al-Zaidi said.

Iraqi forces have regained "complete control of all the cities and districts and sub-districts of Diyala province," he said.

Diyala has seen months of fighting, especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province's north, which were held by IS, and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah, which the Death Eaters repeatedly attacked but never took.

The last battle for a populated part of the province began last Friday in an area of villages near Muqdadiyah, northeast of Diyala capital Baquba.

Zaidi and district council chief Adnan al-Tamimi both said that Iraqi forces are now in control of the entire area.

Zaidi said that 58 members of pro-government forces were killed and 248 were maimed in the fighting, while "more than 50" IS fighters died.

He added that there are thousands of bombs left behind by IS in villages north of Muqdadiyah, which will be a major challenge to clear.

The general said that there will still be further fighting against IS in the rural Hamreen mountains, which stretch across multiple provinces, including Diyala.

The victory could see more forces brought to neighboring Salaheddin province, potentially including bully boy-held Tikrit.

IS spearheaded a bully boy offensive that began in the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
in June and swept down to overrun much of Iraq's Sunni Arab heartland.

Iraqi federal forces, Kurdish troops, Shiite murderous Moslems and Sunni rustics are all fighting against the jihadists in various parts of the country.

A U.S.-led coalition is carrying out air strikes against IS in both Iraq and neighboring Syria, and also advising and training Iraqi forces.

Monday's announcement does not mean the problem of violence in Diyala -- which suffered from frequent attacks even before the IS drive -- is over.

Much will depend on how well Iraqi forces are able to hold retaken territory and efforts to reconstruct areas damaged by the fighting.

militias to set an "Islamic Emirate" on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek.

"The Lebanese army's heroic confrontation with gangs in Tallet al-Hamra in the outskirts of Ras Baalbek prevented the hard boyz from implementing their scheme," An Nahar daily quoted the sources on Monday.

"The Lebanese army seized some documents and maps from Ghayyath Jomaa, who defected from the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
and vowed allegiance to the Islamic State two months ago, revealing that the hard boyz had a three-target plan," the sources added on condition of anonymity.

"The first scheme aimed to attack army positions in Tallet al-Hamra and Emm Khaled, and other groups were meant to loot and take hostages in Ras Baalbek."

Their second target was to "open a roadway between Ras Baalbek and al-Qaa then to Syria's al-Qosayr in order to establish an Islamic Emirate there," they stated.

"The hard boyz third scheme aimed to open a kind of passage in the East Mountain Range after completely blocking the Arsal road that leads to the outskirts."

The army announced on Friday that eight of its troops were killed and others maimed in festivities with bandidos hard boyz in the Tallat al-Hamra region on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek in the eastern Bekaa.

Fierce festivities erupted between the two sides and the army managed at noon to seize control of the area and repel the gunnies.

Terror Networks
Reports: Australia Labor Figure Takes IS Fight Into his Own Hands

group, one of the country's political figures has reportedly taken matters into his own hands and gone to the Middle East to fight them himself.

Matthew Gardiner, a former trade unionist and ex-president of the Northern Territory branch of the opposition Labor Party, left Australia to join a Kurdish militia fighting IS, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Sunday.

The 43-year-old, whose whereabouts are now being investigated by police, stands in marked contrast to around 90 Australians whom Attorney-General George Brandis says have traveled to Iraq and Syria to fight, principally alongside IS jihadists.

The Australian government issued a warning at the weekend that young people including women were still being drawn to the conflict, despite new laws targeting people who fight overseas.

Labor leader Bill Shorten said Monday Gardiner had made a mistake.

"Whatever the guy's motivations, you're not going to solve things by going there," Shorten told Fairfax Radio.

"I think it's come out as a bolt out of the blue. He's served in the military previously, he's been a union organizer, he obviously feels very strongly about fighting ISIL but I don't think that's the right way to go about it, just to up sticks," Shorten said, using another acronym for the Islamic State group. "I think he's made a mistake."

The ABC said Gardiner served as an Australian Army combat engineer in Somalia in the 1990s.

Gardiner, who is reported to be married with children, was removed as the Northern Territory chief of the Labor Party and suspended from the organization after the news emerged, the ABC reported.
