Biden's sinking reelection campaign slammed by fellow Dems: ‘He needs a change.'
Subject line modified only slightly.
[Washington Examiner] With the 2024 election season in full swing, Democratic lawmakers are concerned about President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign as support for former President Donald Trump continues to mount.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who made his second run for the White House in 2020 competing against the Democratic president, said Biden needs a new campaign strategy.

"There is no question, it is very hard for young people, I think for most Americans, to be excited about what is going on right now," Sanders told CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. "President [Biden] has got to change course."

Sanders, a democratic socialist, has pushed Biden to hold Israeli leaders accountable amid a major escalation in the Middle East. Marking over 100 days of the war in Gaza, Sanders introduced a resolution to require the State Department to issue a report on whether Israel is breaching international human rights standards in its attacks on Gaza. The fighting erupted on Oct. 7 when the militant group Hamas attacked Israel.

#1 "He needs a change" is probably not a good campaign slogan for a guy who wears Depends™.

#5 I increasingly wonder if Jojo can make it to the November election before a stroke or increased level of dementia that simply cannot be hidden anymore. I suspect Kamala-lala, knowing this, will cling to the re-election farce with great tenacity, supported by the Cappaqua/CGI mafia, desperate for renewed access. The First Son and Step-Mom "Edith" Biden know that once out in the cold their future involves serious risk of incarceration for a lifetime of fraud and influence peddling on an industrial scale. They will resist any change until blanket pardons are forthcoming. (As an interesting aside, if Jojo has a stroke, and is rendered non-compos mentis, would any pardon be deemed valid, and one wonders if such documents are already issued, and safely secured?)

#6 They could put someone else on the election ticket, but Replacing Kamala now requires House approval. Joe is going to look terrible at State of the Union in an uncontrolled environment. He is not able to campaign. They will have him drop out of the race but would like to keep him in the Oval Office serving out his term.

#7 ^ Yes Supe, appears the dems are running out of both air speed and altitude. Biden may make the finish line, but he'll likely be in a vegetative state.

#8 Replacing Kamala now requires House approval
? I am unfamilar with that process? Where am I ignorant (on this issue, OK?) ?

#9 Frank I was partially wrong. A replacement VP has to be confirmed by both houses.

“By a vote of 92 to 3 on November 27, 1973, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Gerald Ford. The following week, on December 6, the House of Representatives gave its approval, 387 to 35.”

That process yielded Ford and Rockefeller.

#11 Sure replacing a VP requires Congressional approval in both houses of Congress.

But how do they force Kamala to step down? Barring death, grave medical impairment or impeachment, there is way that I am aware of to force Kamala to resign.

#15 Presuming you are referring to Section 2, how do you force Kamala to step down? Kamala can not be "fired" by Biden.

I suppose they can try to offer Kamala some sort of carrot to resign, but given her apparent ego, I'm not sure such a carrot exists.

#16 It looks like they could use the 25th to oust Kamala just based on her stupidity. The word inability is pretty broad. I doubt they would do it. I think they have enough dirt on all of their own politicians and can get them to resign at will, but I think they will give her the presidency for a couple months. Biden has set the bar low.

The stopper on an immediate replacement is the Congressional block preventing them sliding in a preferred candidate. They will put someone like Elisabeth Warren in but the resignation has to happen after the ticket is established at the Convention otherwise Kamala and Warren will demand to run.

#17 The hard part would be getting the Republican-controlled House to go along with approving the replacement. I’m pretty sure the vice president, like the various secretaries and senior department officers, serves at the pleasure of the president and can be fired at will.

Personally, I’m perfectly happy with the idea that in the sad event that President Biden were determined no longer able to serve, the (Republican) Speaker of the House would have to shoulder his responsibilities in accordance with the US Constitution.

#18 I don't believe the 25th Amendment states of any way to remove a VP, just the president.

I also don't believe the VP serves as the pleasure of the president either. Way back when, the VP was a member of the opposition, who put aside his differences with the winner to serve the country.

At it stands I believe that barring death, grave medical impairment or impeachment, there is no way to remove Kamala as VP against her will.

And even if it gets to impeachment, maybe that don't get the votes needed and that also the votes needed for a replacement aren't there.

It seems I was wrong. It says here that because the vice president is generally elected to the position, only Congress can get rid of the VP. The only time the president can fire his VP is while they are candidates running for office. Once elected, the only way to get rid of the VP is if the VP dies, becomes incapacitated, or is impeached by Congress. Just like the president.

#20 Does congress have be involved, IF BIDEN JUST DECIDES his new vp running mate for 2024 is Obama?

#21 @20

No, but replacing Kamala has its own dangers, such as risking a rather large portion of his black and/or female base.

I don't believe Michelle Obama will choose to run, especially as a VP to Biden. The Obama's already have the money, power and prestige.

#24 Joe can’t be taken out at will, because his mental capacity is degraded and everyone knows it. Technically, Kamala doesn’t even need an inauguration or oath. LBJ just did that for show and included Jackie because he was a total jerk. Their goal is to get to the convention without holding primaries so they can make a ticket without the interference of voters. For Joe to make it that far he has to be coherent at SOTU. I may even watch this year.
