[GEO.TV] Iran-backed hard boyz launched ballistic missiles at a base hosting US forces in western Iraq, causing one Iraqi and possible American casualties, the US Central Command said Saturday. The US Central Command said Saturday that Iran-backed hard boyz launched ballistic missiles at a US forces' base in western Iraq. The attack caused one Iraqi and possible American casualties, according to the CENTCOM. "Multiple ballistic missiles and rockets were launched by Iranian-backed hard boyz in western Iraq targeting al-Assad Airbase," CENTCOM said in a social media post, which placed the time of the attack at 6:30pm Baghdad time (1530GMT) Saturday evening. Most of the projectiles were intercepted by the base’s air defense systems but "others impacted on the base," the statement said. "A number of US personnel are undergoing evaluation for traumatic brain injuries. At least one Iraqi service member was maimed," it added. According to the Pentagon, dozens of US personnel have been lightly maimed in previous attacks since late October. There are roughly 2,500 American troops in Iraq and some 900 in Syria.
According to him, the shelling was carried out by Iraqi Shiite military groups. The rockets were fired from the nearby al-Baghdadi area in western Al-Anbar province. Currently, the report notes, Iraqi security forces are combing the area from where a missile salvo was allegedly fired towards the military base.
