East Baghdad raid yields cache, suspect
2007-09-12
Soldiers with the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division captured one suspected insurgent and recovered a weapons cache during Operation Tacoma III Sept. 10 in the New Baghdad section of the Iraqi capital.

The operation, carried out by Soldiers of Company C, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, resulted in the recovery of two explosively formed penetrators, eight hand grenades, one rocket, 218 rounds of ammunition, three mortars and three rolls of wire. The suspect detained is being held for further questioning. The operation was part of the continuous effort to sweep out insurgent strongholds. This includes setting up Coalition outposts and joint security stations as part of the Baghdad Security Plan to pacify the capital.

#1  Excellent. East Baghdad isn't known as an al-Qaeda in Iraq stronghold. In fact, Shiite control of the airport corridor has left Sunni pockets isolated and vulnerable.
