6 troops killed in Dir blast
2006-07-04
TIMERGARA: Six paramilitary personnel were killed and seven injured when their vehicle was hit by an explosion in Lower Dir district, 130km from Peshawar. Lower Dir DCO Javed told reporters that the Dir Scouts personnel were escorting officers of the Army Staff College, Quetta, to Chitral. Six troops had been killed and three of the soldiers injured in the blast were in "critical condition".
Ceasefire's going pretty well, huh?
"The Staff College officials escaped unharmed," Javed said. "Five personnel have died and seven injured in what appears to be a roadside explosion," military spokesman Shaukat Sultan told Daily Times. He said that full details of the incident were awaited. Experts said a remote-controlled integrated device caused the blast. An unconfirmed report said that the paramilitary personnel were "escorting" military officials to the Shandoor festival, which starts from July 6.
